Infotecs, the cybersecurity and threat intelligence firm, will be presenting its e‑charger security solution based on the MICA® platform from April 23 to April 27, 2018 at the HANNOVER MESSE.  The German government is requiring 35,000 charging points for electric vehicles, as this is the only way to reach the goal of one million electric cars on the streets in Germany by 2020. 

The user data and charging process data transferred by the charging infrastructure for electric cars have become an attractive target for cyber attacks.  Infotecs will present its encryption solution for charging station communications based on the MICA platform by the HARTING Technology Group.  With its military-grade software-defined VPN technology, Infotecs software will secure the entire communication process between back-end systems (e.g.  with billing providers) and electric vehicles.  This protects against unauthorized interception or manipulation of data traffic. 

With MICA Edge Computing Systems by HARTING, data are transmitted from a Smart Meter, which is integrated into a charging point and charging controller to the ViPNet encryption module that securely transfers the data to the provider’s back-end systems to calculate the exact usage and issue a charging authorization.
