The Wohlers Report 2018 confirms the rapid growth in the sale of metal laser melting machines, with turnover in 2017 having risen by 80 percent compared with the previous year. toolcraft is part of this trend and focuses on continuously improving its work in the area of additive manufacturing and on increasing its capacity in this field. For example, the company has now expanded its machine park to a total of ten systems. The company’s investments have enabled it to use heat-resistant components made from 1.4828 to extend its range of services on an ongoing basis.

1.4828 – an outstanding option for equipment and machinery manufacturing
Additive manufacturing is gradually taking a wide range of industrial sectors by storm. The method has significant benefits over conventional production processes, including the ability to handle complex geometries and cavities as well as weight and cost reductions thanks to FEM calculations and topology optimisation. toolcraft also constantly strives to broaden its range of materials. Besides nickel-based, aluminium and titanium alloys, the company processes stainless and tool steel. Technical components made from 1.4828 are resistant to heat and scaling. The chrome-nickel-steel is suitable for use in temperatures of between 800 and 1,000°C. Its properties make it the ideal material for producing components in the field of equipment and machinery manufacturing. What’s more, it is non-magnetisable.

Complete process chain
Laser melting equipment is only part of the story. Manufacturing high-quality 3D-printed components requires a complete process chain, from design, manufacturing and finishing to optical, tactile and non-destructive testing. toolcraft offers the entire additive manufacturing value chain in house and achieved Nadcap certification for the process in March. The company also evaluates the dynamic strength of various metals by performing fatigue testing in its own lab.

Über die toolcraft AG

toolcraft is a pioneer of forward-looking technologies, such as 3D metal printing and the construction of customised turnkey robotics solutions. The company tests and develops innovative engineering processes until they are ready to be used on production lines. As a provider of comprehensive solutions, toolcraft covers the entire process chain, from the initial idea to manufacturing, quality assurance and testing in the areas of CNC machining, 3D metal printing, injection moulding, spark erosion (EDM) and mould making. Its clients include market leaders in the semiconductors, aerospace, medical technology, optical, special machinery manufacturing, motor sports and automotive industries. Building close working relationships with collaborative partners as well as universities, other institutions of higher education and research centres is an important part of its corporate philosophy. The medium-sized family-owned company, located in Georgensgmünd and Spalt, was founded by Bernd Krebs in 1989.
