The development of the gold price in recent decades shows how attractive gold is today.
In 1980, the price of gold exceeded 400 US dollars per ounce for the first time. In 2009, it passed the 1,000 US dollar mark. From then on, it went up significantly. The major financial crisis of 2008/2009 brought major price changes. US monetary and fiscal policy became increasingly aggressive. In 2010, the price headed towards 2,000 US dollars per ounce of gold. Later came the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. Uncertainty and fears of inflation have driven up the price of the precious metal in recent years. And inflation is still rather stubborn. Today, the US dollar is losing more and more credibility as a reserve currency. Central banks are increasing their gold reserves, and the US debt mountain is growing ever larger. The latest "In Gold We Trust" study also sees a long-term movement away from fiat trust towards hard gold.
Gold has become the central theme. Since the beginning of 2024, the gold price has posted 65 record closing prices. And if the "In Gold We Trust" study is right, then the gold price rally is only in the middle of the cycle. An ounce of gold is expected to cost USD 4,800 by the end of 2030, although a significantly higher price is also possible. There are still many Western investors who have not yet participated in the gold price rally, so there is still room for improvement in this area.
The central banks are still buying very diligently. Gold is the oldest safe haven and continues to benefit from monetary policy conditions and crises. Given the high gold and silver prices, mining companies should perform above average and attract investors. Miata Metals and MAG Silver, for example, are high-quality companies.
In Suriname, South America, Miata Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/miata-metals-corp/ – is concentrating on two promising gold projects (Sela Creek, Nassau), which are located in the greenstone belt.
MAG Silver – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/mag-silver-corp/ – is one of the successful silver producers with its stake in the Juanicipio silver mine in Mexico. In 2025, it delivered high silver grades and a record yield. The takeover of MAG Silver by Pan American Silver is currently underway.
