Key findings of the report
The report prepared by ECIJA highlights several key strengths of the duraSign Pad NG 10. It confirms that the system is a secure, GDPR-compliant solution that provides strong legal evidence for capturing biometric signatures.
1. Forgery-proof linking of signature and document
The system ensures that the captured biometric data is inseparably linked to the respective document content – a key requirement for legal validity.
2. Encryption directly in the device
All biometric data is encrypted directly on the pad and embedded in the document. StepOver does not store any copies – a clear advantage in terms of data protection and data security.
3. Strictly controlled access to biometric data
A private key is required for the analysis in legal proceedings, which is kept exclusively by a notary. Access is therefore exclusively authorized and traceable – using common forensic tools or StepOver’s own SOSignAnalyzer software.
4. Protected transmission and integrity assurance
The integration of biometric data and an electronic seal directly in the device eliminates the need to transmit sensitive information. This protects against manipulation and ensures the integrity of the signature process.
5. High probative value – even without a qualified electronic signature
The signatures generated meet current legal requirements for authenticity and integrity – both at European and international level. Even without a qualified electronic signature, they offer a high degree of legal validity.
6. Fulfillment of the criteria for advanced electronic signatures
Based on the technical architecture and the procedural implementation, ECIJA confirms that the duraSign Pad NG 10 fulfills all requirements for an advanced electronic signature (FES) in accordance with eIDAS – and is therefore suitable for a wide range of business and legal applications.
Relevant legal bases
The report refers to the following key EU legal acts:
- eIDAS Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014, amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1183
- Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1502, which defines technical specifications for eIDAS-compliant signatures
- General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR)
These regulations define the legal framework for electronic identification and signature procedures in the European Union.
Conclusion: Technologically advanced, legally resilient
The legal opinion from ECIJA confirms this: The duraSign Pad NG 10 is not only technologically mature, but also meets the highest legal and data protection requirements. This makes it the ideal solution for companies and institutions operating in regulated industries or risk-sensitive areas – from financial service providers and public authorities to the healthcare and legal sectors.
