Brandenburg Labs equips its advanced headphone system Okeanos Pro with a new function. Starting in August 2025 users will have access to the Directivity Transfer Function (DTF) editor. This new tool enables Okeanos Pro users to adjust the directivity of virtual sound sources. By incorporating DTFs into their workflow, audio professionals will be able to experience a more realistic representation of their studio.

Okeanos Pro makes it possible to mix multichannel audio with unparalleled flexibility, in any studio using only headphones. It offers a versatile and high-quality solution, simplifying multichannel mixing by eliminating the need for traditional physical speaker setups. Okeanos Pro is the first system that delivers an outstanding immersive listening experience via headphones. Since its launch in autumn 2024, Okeanos Pro has already empowered several music studios and research facilities to explore the full potential of spatial audio.

With the new DTF feature, Okeanos Pro can more accurately represent the unique studio design of audio professionals, providing a more accurate simulation and enhanced immersion. Moreover, users benefit from the possibility to evaluate different loudspeakers virtually and simulate unique directivity patterns. Brandenburg Labs’ new directivity transfer function offers a library of pre-made DTFs. Additionally, users are able to record and edit the DTF of a loudspeaker at six cardinal positions, i.e. front, back, left, right, top, and bottom. Points between the cardinal positions are interpolated at 10 degrees intervals, providing 360 degrees of coverage.

“This new feature gives professionals plenty of creative freedom in their immersive music productions. They can easily edit DTFs from measured responses or create one from scratch. We are pleased to provide audio professionals with an even better tool for mixing multi-channel sound via headphones”, explains Professor Karlheinz Brandenburg, CEO of Brandenburg Labs.

The Directivity Transfer Function editor will be available as a free upgrade in Okeanos Pro starting August 2025. For the future, more new functions are planned such as the editing of pre-made DTFs or more visualization. Brandenburg Labs is committed to working closely with customers to continue refining its technology based on users’ feedback.
