Solarwatt had already halted production of solar modules and battery storage systems at the Dresden site in late summer 2024. While initially considered a temporary measure, the lack of political support ultimately led to the permanent closure of the facility. “Without political backing, the German industry stands no chance against dumping practices by Chinese manufacturers,” stated former Solarwatt CEO Detlef Neuhaus.
Rapid Sale of Entire Solar Production Lines
In response to the closure, Solarwatt turned to Maynards Europe for the professional marketing of its manufacturing equipment. Together with sales partner AllSurplus, Maynards successfully completed the sale of the full production lines in spring 2025.
The state-of-the-art equipment for photovoltaic module and battery production remained operational at the Dresden site until the sale and covered a total area of approximately 3,800 square meters. Installed as recently as 2021 by leading manufacturers KUKA (solar modules) and Bosch (battery modules), the systems had only been in use for a few years. The sale presented a unique opportunity for new investors to gain a foothold in the fast-growing renewable energy sector.
Strong Market Demand for Sustainable Technology
For Solarwatt, the closure was primarily a strategic move in response to policy shortcomings within the industry. The experienced company has since broadened its strategic focus and now concentrates on holistic energy systems for private homes and commercial properties.
At the same time, the swift and successful sale of the production lines underscores the high market demand for renewable energy technologies. “This transaction reflects the continued strong interest in sustainable energy solutions and highlights the global importance of green technologies,” Maynards Europe emphasized in a recent LinkedIn statement.
