And it is not only the impending tax that is a reason to buy, but also the desire to benefit from rising gold prices. According to the Royal Mint, coin purchases are at record highs, up 115 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter last year. In the third quarter of 2025, sales were even 153 percent higher than in the same quarter last year. The World Gold Council has also reported strong demand for British bars and coins. All investment coins and all gold, silver, and platinum coins are exempt from capital gains tax for UK residents if they come from the Royal Mint. On the other hand, this tax applies to all gold, silver, and platinum coins if they do not come from the Royal Mint. Gold and silver coins are also subject to capital gains tax because they are not legal tender. A survey of coin and bar buyers revealed that 26 per cent cited asset protection as their motive for purchasing. Investors are rightly keen to seek protection from economic or political upheaval in precious metals such as gold, silver or platinum.
In this country, too, the sale of gold from private assets is tax-free if there is a period of at least twelve months between purchase and sale. However, due to rising government spending in Germany, a change in tax laws that would be negative for investors is possible. In Germany, capital gains tax on shares is only payable if the profit exceeds €1,000 (for single persons). However, gold stocks score points over physical gold with their leverage on the gold price. Investors should therefore also look at companies such as Miata Metals or Tudor Gold, for example.
Miata Metals – https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/mining-news-flash-with-miata-metals-fury-gold-mines-and-southern-cross-gold/ – owns two promising gold projects in Suriname, South America (Sela Creek, Nassau).
Tudor Gold – https://www.commodity-tv.com/play/mining-news-flash-with-tudor-gold-skeena-gold-and-silver-and-meridian-mining/ – is an exploration and development company for precious and base metals with claims in the Golden Triangle of British Columbia (Canada). The Treaty Creek project in particular appears extremely promising.
