BDC Laboratories, a Tentamus Company and recognized leader in cardiovascular device testing solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with the newly established Dilawri Cardiovascular Institute (DCI). This collaboration is set to accelerate the development, validation, and clinical relevance of next-generation cardiovascular medical devices.

DCI comprises 16 core centers uniting research with every aspect of cardiac practice. The partnership aligns with the launch of DCI’s Center for Cardiovascular Translational Science, a hub dedicated to advancing device testing and simulation in collaboration with academic, clinical, and industry partners—from start-ups to established manufacturers—with a strong emphasis on transcatheter heart valve technologies.

By integrating BDC’s regulatory-grade bench testing capabilities with DCI’s clinical expertise, the two organizations aim to produce evidence-based data that better reflects evolving patient realities—ultimately improving device performance and clinical outcomes.

Bridging Research and Clinical Reality

The Center for Cardiovascular Translational Science focuses on closing the gap between bench and bedside, driving innovation in device design, evaluation, and expanded indications. This includes initiatives such as assessing bioprosthetic valve durability, refining re-intervention techniques, and simulating real-world anatomical challenges.

“We integrate both biological and engineering components to build more clinically representative models that reflect the real challenges our clinical colleagues face every day,” said Stephanie Sellers, PhD, Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Translational Science. “Our goal is to help our partners develop truly excellent devices. If our models can shift the needle even one percent in terms of clinical outcomes, that’s a meaningful win.”

Achieving Better Clinical Outcomes Through Strategic Collaboration

To support these efforts, BDC Laboratories will equip the center with its HDTi-6000 pulse duplicator—a high-performance, adaptable test platform capable of simulating complex clinical conditions with regulatory-grade precision.

BDC’s active R&D group continuously works alongside clinical, regulatory, and industry experts to ensure its testing systems meet current requirements while anticipating future needs. This includes addressing emerging challenges such as triple-valve testing scenarios and designing diverse artificial root anatomies for more realistic evaluations.

“Innovation in this field often moves faster than the regulatory guidance documents utilized for evaluation,” said Craig Weinberg, PhD, CTO of BDC Laboratories. “Our R&D team works closely with clinical experts, like Stephanie’s group, as well as industry and regulatory leaders, to ensure our testing reflects where the field is heading—while staying aligned with current requirements. Whether our partners are submitting to regulators, exploring novel concepts, or conducting academic research, we’re committed to driving innovation that’s both clinically relevant and regulatory aligned.”
