TÜV SÜD BABT has been awarded an extension to its ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation scope to include MCS 007, the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) standard for heat pumps. This enables TÜV SÜD BABT to provide independent third-party certification services for heat pump products in accordance with one of the UK’s most important quality schemes for small-scale renewable energy technologies.

TÜV SÜD BABT has been an MCS Product Certification Body for solar photovoltaic systems and solar mounting systems since 2011. With this latest accreditation, the organisation is further broadening its portfolio in the field of renewable energy and supporting manufacturers in bringing compliant, safe and high-quality heat pump products to the UK market.

Expanded MCS accreditation strengthens market access for heat pump manufacturers

The extension allows TÜV SÜD to offer both product testing and segregated, independent certification services for a wider range of microgeneration technologies. Through its global expertise and local market knowledge, TÜV SÜD supports manufacturers in navigating complex regulatory requirements, rapidly evolving technologies and increasing sustainability expectations.

“This latest accreditation clearly demonstrates TÜV SÜD’s commitment to safety, security and sustainability,” said Mark Pope, Certification Body Manager at TÜV SÜD BABT. “By adding MCS heat pump Certification for green energy products, we are further strengthening our ability to support manufacturers and enhance the overall customer experience.”

MCS certification as a trusted quality mark for heat pump technologies

MCS certification is widely recognised by both industry and consumers as a mark of quality. It enables manufacturers to demonstrate compliance with stringent performance, safety and efficiency requirements, helping to ensure the reliability and high quality of renewable energy systems. For householders and organisations, purchasing MCS-certified products may be a prerequisite for accessing UK government grant schemes and financial incentives.

Certification under the MCS scheme is achieved by demonstrating compliance with the relevant requirements through product testing and a factory production control audit. The resulting evidence is submitted to TÜV SÜD BABT for independent third-party assessment. Once successfully certified, products are authorised to carry the MCS logo.

TÜV SÜD BABT is a globally recognised certification body with one of the broadest accreditation portfolios on the market. In addition to ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for product, process and service certification, TÜV SÜD BABT is also accredited to ISO/IEC 17020 for inspection bodies, ISO/IEC 17021-1 for management system certification bodies and ISO/IEC 17024 for personnel certification. These accreditations enable TÜV SÜD BABT to operate a wide range of national and international certification schemes across multiple industries.
