The following two topics will be addressed in the MinProXT webinar:

• Theme 1: Advances and recent development in the methods of 2D and 3D prospectivity mapping and geoscientific data analyses, and the associated limitations, uncertainties, and challenges.
• Theme 2: Real-world utilization of the prospectivity maps in varied fields such as land-use assignments, infrastructure planning and others in addition to mineral deposit exploration.

MinProXT 2022 will features invited and non-invited talks by eminent scientists from the mineral exploration industry, research organizations and academic institutions. The primary objective of the webinar is to present ideas on the varied topics related to mineral prospectivity analyses and exploration targeting. The webinar aims to be a confluence point to foster open discussions and interaction between the predictive mapping research experts, the public sector organization executives, and the experienced professionals from the mining and mineral exploration industry.

MinProXT 2022 is supported by the following co-hosts: United States Geological Survey (USGS), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), University of New South Wales (UNSW), Geoscience Australia, and University of Western Australia (UWA) – Centre for Exploration Targeting, and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg – Division for Economic Geology and Pertology.

Die folgenden zwei Themen werden im MinProXT-Webinar behandelt:

Während des MinProXT 2022-Webinars werden geladene und nicht geladene Vorträge von Wissenschaftlern aus der Mineralexplorationsbranche, Forschungsorganisationen und akademischen Einrichtungen zu hören sein. Das Hauptziel des Webinars besteht darin, Ideen zu den verschiedenen Themen im Zusammenhang mit der Analyse der Rohstoffprospektivität und der Planung von Erkundungsarbeiten zu präsentieren. Das Webinar soll ein Treffpunkt sein, um offene Diskussionen und Interaktionen zwischen Experten aus der Forschung, Führungskräften öffentlicher Einrichtungen und erfahrenen Fachleuten aus der Bergbau- und Rohstoffexplorationsbranche zu fördern.

The Exploration Information System project, in short EIS, had its official kick-off meeting from 7^th to 9^th June 2022 in Rovaniemi (Finland). As part of the Horizon Europe program, EIS will play a critical role in finding new sources of critical raw materials for the EU’s transitioning economy by developing innovative exploration concepts and data analysis tools.

Funded by the European Commission and launched on 1^st May 2022, EIS project’s coordinator GTK organized a kick-off meeting in Rovaniemi and gathered 16 partners from six EU countries, South Africa, and one associate partner from Brazil along with world-leading geologists, data analysts, and other experts who discussed their roles in the project and other planning activities. The meeting was followed by a field trip to one of Lapland’s fascinating mafic layered intrusions, a real treat for all geologists out there!

The EIS consortium aims to develop methods and tools that will reduce the current high exploration costs and improve the accuracy of targeting during the early phase of mineral exploration. The project will put into practice open-source tools for all stages of mineral prospectivity analysis. The package will be published in the form of an EIS QGIS Wizard, which is made on an open-source geographic information system (GIS) platform called QGIS. This will promote a more responsible standard in the field of mineral exploration.

Field tests will be held in Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Finland, Sweden, France, Brazil, and South Africa, to examine the success of the EIS tools to find mineral resources crucial for the European Union climate goals.

The project also aims to increase the awareness of the general public on the importance of critical raw materials for the European Union in our transition to a green future by producing information materials related to primary raw materials.

“One aim of EIS is to make better decisions throughout all stages of a mineral exploration project. This will help to increase productivity, efficiency, and thus, makes mineral exploration more environmentally responsible and sustainable.
Mining stakeholders and experts have been looking forward to tools like these. A Scope Engagement Forum will be launched aiming to engage with policymakers, regulators, academia, NGOs, citizens, and end-users. This forum will stimulate stakeholder engagement and enhance societal acceptance, and uptake of EIS innovations.”Juha KAIJA, GTK, Stakeholder engagement leader of the EIS project.

As a Horizon Europe project, EIS will have a triple impact on the EU’s 2050 climate goals. By developing tools and methods to reduce the ecological impact of mineral explorations, finding new sources of raw materials critical for the digitalization of the European Union, and raising awareness of the important role of raw materials.

All these impacts play a fundamental role in our transition to a green future of Europe.

Die offizielle Startveranstaltung des Exploration Information System-Projektes, kurz EIS, fand vom 7. bis 9. Juni 2022 in Rovaniemi (Finnland) statt. Als Teil des Horizont Europa-Programmes wird EIS mit der Entwicklung innovativer Rohstofferkundungskonzepte und Datenanalysewerkzeuge eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Suche nach neuen Quellen für kritische Rohstoffe für die sich wandelnde Wirtschaft der EU spielen.

Finanziert von der Europäischen Kommission und auf dem Papier bereits am 1. Mai 2022 gestartet, wurde das EIS-Projekt durch die Projektkoordinatoren des Finnischen Geologischen Dienstes (GTK) Anfang Juni offiziell im Rahmen des Kick-off-Meetings in Rovaniemi eröffnet. Dabei versammelten sich die 16 Projektpartner aus sechs EU-Ländern, Südafrika und ein assoziierter Partner aus Brasilien sowie weltweit führende Geologen, Datenanalysten und andere Experten, um ihre Rolle im Projekt und andere Planungsaktivitäten zu diskutieren. Im Anschluss an das Treffen fand eine Exkursion zu einer der faszinierenden mafischen Schichtintrusionen Lapplands statt – ein wahres Highlight für alle Geologen!

Das EIS-Konsortium hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Methoden und Werkzeuge zu entwickeln, die die derzeit hohen Explorationskosten senken und die Zielgenauigkeit in der frühen Phase der Rohstoffexploration verbessern. Im Rahmen des Projekts werden Open-Source-Tools für alle Phasen der Rohstoffhöffigkeitsanalyse in die Praxis umgesetzt. Das Werkzeugpaket wird in Form eines EIS-QGIS-Assistenten veröffentlicht, der auf einer Open-Source-Plattform für geografische Informationssysteme (GIS) namens QGIS erstellt wird. Dadurch wird die verantwortungsvollere Anwendung eines Standards auf dem Gebiet der Rohstofferkundung gefördert.

Im Rahmen des Projektes werden Feldversuche in der Tschechischen Republik, Deutschland, Spanien, Finnland, Schweden, Frankreich, Brasilien und Südafrika durchgeführt, um den Erfolg der EIS-Werkzeuge bei der Suche nach solchen Bodenschätzen zu untersuchen, die für die Klimaziele der Europäischen Union von entscheidender Bedeutung sind.

Das Projekt zielt auch darauf ab, die breite Öffentlichkeit hinsichtlich der Bedeutung kritischer Rohstoffe für die Europäische Union beim Übergang zu einer grünen Zukunft zu sensibilisieren, indem Informationsmaterialen zu Primärrohstoffen erstellt werden.

Bergbauinteressierte und -experten haben auf solche Instrumente schon lange gewartet. Es wird ein Forum zur Aufgabenumsetzung eingerichtet, um mit politischen Entscheidungsträgern, Aufsichtsbehörden, Akademikern, Nichtregierungsorganisationen, Bürgern und Endnutzern in Kontakt zu treten. Als Horizont Europa Projekt wird EIS einen dreifachen Einfluss auf die Klimaziele der EU für 2050 haben. Durch die Entwicklung von Werkzeugen und Methoden zur Verringerung der ökologischen Auswirkungen der Rohstofferkundung, die Suche nach neuen Rohstoffquellen, die für die Digitalisierung der Europäischen Union entscheidend sind, und die Sensibilisierung für die wichtige Rolle von Rohstoffen.

All diese Auswirkungen spielen eine grundlegende Rolle bei unserem Übergang zu einer grünen Zukunft in Europa.

Dieses Modul richtet sich sowohl an alle Bergbauunternehmen als auch an Angestellte, Arbeiter und Handwerker im Bergbausektor, zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure und NGOs, die sich über den folgenden Link kostenlos auf der Plattform registrieren können: https://precasem.cm/register/

Die unter https://precasem.cm/ erreichbare Webseite ist öffentlich zugänglich. Die Nutzer können bereits Profile erstellen und anpassen sowie Dokumente und Online-Veranstaltungen einstellen, die dann diskutiert und kommentiert werden können. Die beiden wichtigsten neuen Funktionen sind:

• Das Frage- und Beschwerdemodul, mit dem jeder eingeloggte Nutzer Fragen und Beschwerden (Q&A) auf der Plattform veröffentlichen kann (Bild 1). Diese Q&A können auf Wunsch des Nutzers und nach Validierung durch die Moderation in eine öffentliche Liste aufgenommen werden und dann auf der Website erscheinen (Bild 2).
• Ein Chat-Modul, das es den Nutzern ermöglicht, auf private Weise miteinander zu kommunizieren (Bild 3).

Diese Webseite, welche bereits mehr als 300 Nutzer zählt, wurde von der Beak Consultants GmbH im Rahmen des MINMIDT’s Capacity Building Project in the Mining Sector (PRECASEM) entwickelt, das von der Weltbank finanziert wird.
