With its designation as an “Authorized Partner” of robotics specialist Stäubli, Nagel Technologies GmbH reinforces its consistent strategy toward automation and intelli gent manufacturing. For industrial users, this means one thing above all: even more powerful, flexible, and fully integrated solutions from a single source. The part nership is built on many years of close collaboration and a clear strategic decision: Nagel is deliberately leveraging Stäubli robots as an integral part of its machine con cepts. This includes ongoing investments in robotics, continuous training of its work force, and the active development of new applications across various industries. “The designation confirms our strategic direction and the trust-based collaboration of recent years,” explains Erkan Hodza. “What matters most to us is delivering com plete solutions to our customers – from the machine itself to perfectly integrated ro botics.”

Greater Efficiency Through End-to-End Automation

The role robotics plays at Nagel today is particularly evident in the EcoHone series. By combining proprietary control technology with Stäubli robots, highly automated honing solutions are created – capable of processing multiple workpiece variants au tonomously, including part-specific tool and parameter changes. For users, this translates into a significant increase in productivity and flexibility: a wide variety of parts, small batch sizes, and rapid changeovers can be handled without additional manual effort. Another key advantage lies in deep process expertise. Nagel not only develops its machines but also programs and integrates the robotics entirely in house. This enables rapid response times – for example, in service cases or when adapting to new workpieces. Simulations are also carried out before project launch to eliminate potential sources of error at an early stage. “Our customers benefit above all from speed and reliability in implementation,” Hodza adds. “We under stand the entire process and can make adjustments very quickly – this is a decisive competitive advantage in practice.”

Driving Technological Advancement

Both partners are also pushing forward technological integration. Current develop ments focus, among other areas, on intelligent tool-changing systems and the use of force-control sensors to make machining processes even more precise and robust. Applications range from automotive suppliers and tool manufacturers to consumer goods producers – anywhere that demands maximum precision combined with fle xible automation.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Looking ahead to 2028, Nagel and Stäubli plan to further expand their collaboration and industrialize new processes, particularly in honing, cutting-edge preparation, and freeform machining. The foundation for this is a combination of technological innovation, strong partnership, and an experienced team. For Nagel, the “Authorized Partner” designation is therefore more than a formal status – it represents a success ful partnership and a clear vision for the future of automated manufacturing.

Industrial superfinishing is defined by a wide range of highly specialized processes – from grinding and honing to superfinishing, lapping, and polishing. With sister companies such as Nagel Technologies, Gehring Technologies, Gehring Diato, KADIA, FLP Microfinishing, O.ERRE.PI. and ELGAN, the Nagel Group brings together this full spectrum of technologies in a uniquely comprehensive portfolio.

In theory, this setup enables seamless coverage of the entire superfinishing value chain – from grinding and honing to superfinishing, lapping, and polishing. Tooling plays a pivotal role: companies such as Gehring Diato and ELGAN develop cutting and abrasive tools based on diamond, CBN, or ceramic materials, each tailored to the specific technology and machining task. The portfolio ranges from grinding wheels for machining hard-coated brake discs to advanced cutting materials designed to generate friction-optimized surfaces.

One roof, many technologies – and the freedom to choose the best solution

The real strength of the Nagel Group, however, lies not only in its technological breadth, but in the structured interaction between its sister companies. Machines, tools, process expertise, and component know-how remain integrated within a single system. For users working with sensitive components – in industries such as automotive, hydraulics, defense, e-mobility, and aerospace – this translates into shorter coordination paths, significantly reduced project complexity, and clear overall responsibility for the machining result, even across multiple technologies.

Process integration in practice: how users benefit from end-to-end solutions

How this technological breadth translates into real-world applications becomes particularly evident in implemented projects across various industries. What matters is not the individual technology, but the targeted combination aligned with specific component requirements.

A case from the aerospace sector illustrates this approach: an international airline group relocated the maintenance of selected axial piston pumps into its own production. The technical focus was on machining function-critical components, particularly the interaction between raceways and pistons. The solution was realized through the coordinated interplay of honing technology from KADIA and superfinishing processes from Nagel Technologies. By directly linking both processes, a stable and reproducible surface quality was achieved – without additional interfaces.

A comparable approach can be seen in the automotive sector at a leading manufacturer of automatic transmissions. Here, too, the process chain is based on the combination of KADIA honing and Nagel superfinishing. In addition to the precise alignment of machining steps, peripheral systems such as cooling and filtration technology were jointly utilized. This integrated process design enabled cost-efficient series production while meeting demanding requirements in terms of dimensional accuracy and surface functionality.

In the bearing industry, the breadth of the portfolio becomes particularly evident. Grinding processes from O.ERRE.PI. are combined with superfinishing technologies from Nagel Technologies to ensure reliable machining of critical components such as inner and outer rings. Additional process steps can be integrated within the group, enabling the mapping of nearly the entire mechanical process chain for bearing production.

Across all examples, one key insight emerges: technical performance is not the result of isolated processes, but of their intelligent integration – precisely aligned with the component, its function, and the production environment.

Technology Diversity as a Modular System for Precision Process Solutions

How this technological breadth translates into high-performance process solutions becomes evident at the machine level—and, above all, in the interaction of individual technologies:

FLP Microfinishing GmbH demonstrates at the GrindingHub, with its new HE series—particularly the HE540—how multiple superfinishing processes can be integrated into a single machine. Fine grinding, lapping, and polishing are combined within a compact architecture specifically designed for thin-walled and geometrically demanding workpieces. By linking planetary processing systems with fine grinding technology, an exceptionally uniform material removal is achieved alongside superior surface quality.

For users, the decisive factor is not only precision but process stability: multiple machining steps can be realized within minimal space, without additional interfaces or part transfers. At the same time, the machine is fully geared toward connected production. End-to-end interfaces enable the acquisition and integration of process data across the entire machining chain. Combined with data-driven and AI-supported analytics, this creates a self-learning system that not only monitors processes but continuously optimizes them—a clear advantage for high-volume manufacturers with stringent requirements for transparency and reproducibility.

In the field of honing, Gehring Technologies presents the Deephone 2000, a horizontal honing machine designed for internal diameters ranging from 20 to 600 mm. The combination of internal cooling supplied directly to the point of engagement and in-process measurement—supported by a specially adapted control system (GHC – Gehring Honing Control)—ensures thermally stable machining with continuous process monitoring.

For large, repeatable production volumes, the adapter rod can optionally be equipped with an air supply system. In interaction with the tool, this enables continuous measurement via air back-pressure sensing, with real-time comparison against the honing control system and immediate corrective action where necessary. The key differentiator lies in the closed control loop: tool, machine, metrology, and digital analytics are seamlessly interconnected so that deviations are not only detected but instantly compensated. For users, this results in significantly reduced process variation and greater planning reliability in series production.

KADIA Produktion GmbH + Co. KG complements this spectrum with the second generation of the E line. This ultra-compact precision honing machine targets applications requiring economically efficient high-performance honing. At its core is the LH2x honing spindle with three direct drives, whose high rigidity enables both powerful and highly precise machining.

In combination with the HMC100 measurement and control technology, a fully regulated process is achieved, including continuous bore scanning. With up to 500 measurement values per millimeter, form deviations can be detected and compensated immediately. For users, this means high dimensional and geometrical accuracy alongside reduced cycle times and minimal tool wear. Expanded workspaces, integrated coolant systems, and optional additional processes such as deburring further enhance operational flexibility.

With solutions such as EcoHone flex, EASYHONE VRX, and the NaShaft Eco superfinishing platform, Nagel Technologies demonstrates how flexible manufacturing concepts can be implemented in practice. Modular machine architectures, standardized interfaces, and short setup times allow rapid adaptation to changing components and batch sizes. Adaptive process controls ensure consistently high surface quality while reducing friction, emissions, and energy consumption of the machined components—delivering clear benefits in both efficiency and sustainability.

In grinding, the sister company O.ERRE.PI. S.r.l. expands the portfolio with the MTD 610 DR-R double-sided surface grinding machine. The system operates with two opposing slides driven by Siemens brushless motors and guided on high-precision roller systems. The grinding spindles are powered by a 30 kW water-cooled asynchronous motor, ensuring constant power output with high thermal stability.

Flexible dressing systems and an automated loading solution guarantee consistent quality and continuous material flow. The Siemens One control system, featuring a large operator panel, is designed for reproducible processes—an essential factor in high-volume production with tight tolerances.

Tool technology plays a central role throughout the entire process chain. Sister companies such as ELGAN Diamantwerkzeuge GmbH & Co. KG and Gehring Diato develop and manufacture diamond and CBN tools as well as precisely matched interface solutions tailored to machine, material, and machining task.

These tools are not standard components but integral parts of the overall process solution. This close coordination creates a deep interlinking of tool and process, which has a decisive impact on process stability, repeatability, and component quality—especially in applications with tight tolerances and high production volumes. Across all sister companies, tools and cutting media are continuously refined and adapted to specific requirements.

The key point: these technologies do not exist in isolation. They can be selectively combined depending on the application—aligned with material, geometry, tolerance requirements, and production volume. “We don’t have to sell a single product,” explains Sören Pöhlsen of the Nagel Group. “Within the group, we select the solution that best fits the customer—both technically and economically.”

For users, this means that instead of being limited to a predefined solution, they benefit from an optimized combination drawn from the entire portfolio. Machine, tool, and process function as an integrated system—an essential prerequisite for stable results in the micron range, high repeatability, and consistently controlled series production.

Manufacturing Expertise as the Key to Stable Series Production

A key differentiator compared to many market players lies in the consistent manufacturing expertise of the Nagel Group. Machines, tools, and cutting media are not merely supplied—they are specifically developed, adapted, and precisely aligned with the respective machining task. This provides customers with deep process know-how that extends far beyond the individual machine.

In practice, this advantage is most evident in process stability: variations are reduced, operator influence is minimized, and repeatability is significantly increased. At the same time, tools and processes can be rapidly adapted—for example, when introducing new components, changing materials, or meeting higher quality requirements. “Others adapt their process to an existing tool,” says Sören Pöhlsen. “We can modify the tool so that it perfectly fits the process.”

Especially in complex series production environments with tight tolerances, high volumes, and increasing demands for efficiency and sustainability, this capability creates a clear competitive advantage: processes become more robust, ramp-up phases shorter, and total cost of ownership sustainably reduced.

Clear Value for the Industry

For technical professionals, the benefit is clear: the Nagel Group combines technological diversity with deep expertise in precision and process engineering—exactly where it matters most in machining. The result is a coordinated portfolio that enables the realization of precisely the solution that makes the difference in each specific application.

Modern cutting tools are almost always equipped with internal cooling channels. However, the longer the tool, the more demanding the drilling of these channels becomes. This is where a new generation of deep hole drilling solutions comes into play—combining precision, flexibility, and a high level of automation.

Precision Meets Flexibility

With 1 to 4 spindles, drilling diameters ranging from 3 to 22 mm, and drilling depths of up to 1,250 mm, the system covers a wide range of applications. Especially for long workpieces, single-lip deep hole drilling offers clear advantages: a stable process and superior hole straightness, critical for the performance of modern tools with internal cooling. The machines are fully customizable and can be configured either as stand-alone systems or as fully integrated turnkey solutions, including automation. This allows manufacturers to seamlessly switch between single-part production and high-volume series manufacturing.

Automation as a Productivity Driver

A key feature is the high level of automation. Optional robotic loading and unloading enables efficient, largely unmanned operation. At the same time, the system remains practical and user-oriented: setup processes are optimized to minimize downtime and increase overall productivity. “Our customers are looking for more than just precision—they need flexibility to adapt to changing production requirements. That’s exactly what our customizable deep hole drilling solutions deliver, explains Jason Collins of Nagel Precision.

German Engineering – Built in America

The machines combine German engineering expertise with manufacturing and service capabilities in the United States. This ensures short response times, local support, and close customer proximity, key advantages in demanding production environments. “A major benefit is that we provide tools, service, and application expertise from a single source. This significantly reduces interfaces and increases process reliability,” adds Jason Collins.

One Source, Maximum Process Reliability

In addition to the machine itself, the solution includes tooling, application engineering, and service. This holistic approach ensures that all components are perfectly aligned, resulting in consistent quality and highly reliable processes.

With its combination of precision, scalable automation, and customer-specific customization, modern deep hole drilling technology is setting new standards—especially for demanding applications such as high-quality coolant channel drilling.

The new NaDos Robot Cell from Nagel Technologies GmbH in Nuertingen, Germany, sets new benchmarks in automated dispensing technology. This system integrates a UR 10e six-axis robot with cutting-edge features such as plasma pretreatment, calibration sensors, and simulation tools for robotic path planning. The innovative path planning tool allows for quick and intuitive programming of robotic paths—a key advantage for development departments and testing facilities. Its high flexibility makes it an ideal solution for industrial adhesive applications, particularly in e-mobility, where precision and reproducibility are essential.

Plasma Pretreatment for Optimal Adhesion

One of the core functions of the NaDos Robot Cell is plasma pretreatment, provided by Plasmatreat and integrated by Nagel. “By activating the surface, we significantly improve wettability and, consequently, the adhesion of the adhesive,” explains Philipp Schuh, Advanced Robotic Solutions at Nagel Technologies GmbH. “This ensures reproducible quality without the need for rework or cleaning steps.”

High Process Reliability Through Intelligent Sensor Technology

Integrated calibration using a TCP sensor (Tool Center Point of the robot) ensures precise tool positioning. An additional precision scale enables exact dosing and calibration of the applied adhesive. Depending on the application, various dispenser sizes are available. The dosing rates range from 0.01 to 1,092 ml/min. Additionally, dispensers can be configured for two-component applications with different mixing ratios.

Flexibility as a Unique Selling Point: Tool Changing and Simulation Software

A standout feature of the NaDos Robot Cell is its flexibility. The tool change system allows for the integration of additional dispensers, grippers, screwdrivers, or camera systems. “Our customers appreciate the simple and quick reconfiguration, particularly in testing environments,” emphasizes Philipp Schuh. “With minimal effort, various adhesives and processes can be tested without requiring extensive modifications.” The newly developed simulation tool enables users to digitally plan robotic paths in advance and avoid collisions. By simply setting points, the system automatically generates the optimal path and simulates the entire motion sequence.

Broad Application Spectrum and Industrial Use

The NaDos Robot Cell is particularly suited for adhesive applications in e-mobility, such as bonding stators in axial flux motors. Thanks to its six-axis kinematics, it can process both 2D and 3D contours, even in difficult angles or overhead applications. The working area features a 1200 x 800 mm perforated table with variable clamping elements.

Economic Benefits: Automation and Intuitive Operation

Another key advantage of the NaDos Robot Cell is its ease of operation. The intelligent process control system allows productive results to be achieved quickly, even without extensive programming knowledge. This not only saves time but also simplifies operation significantly.

Future-Proof Solution for Series Production of Axial Flux Motors

In addition to use in testing and development environments, the NAGEL Group also provides solutions for the series production of axial flux motors with a complete manufacturing process. Customers benefit from a strong partner network: for instance, Wafios AG supplies equipment for coil bending, while Nagel’s sister company Gehring Technologies GmbH + Co. KG contributes its expertise in production line integration, welding, and trickle impregnation. Lambda Resins supports the process with its expertise in resin encapsulation. This close collaboration ensures that customers receive a fully optimized, highly automated manufacturing solution—from individual components to full-scale serial production.

With the NaDos Robot Cell, Nagel offers a highly flexible and precise automation solution that unlocks new possibilities, particularly in e-mobility. The combination of plasma pretreatment, intelligent sensor technology, simulation software, and modular expandability makes it an ideal tool for companies seeking reproducible quality and future-proof manufacturing.

The Inner Wheel Club Stuttgart added a special cultural and social highlight to the city’s calendar with its annual Cinema Matinee on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the WAC Stuttgart. The award-winning film CRANKO by Dr. Joachim A. Lang was screened — with the director himself in attendance. Around 150 Inner Wheel members, partners, and guests took part in the event, which impressed not only through cinematic artistry but also through its spirit of commitment and community.

Thanks to donations totaling €5,000, the Club will support Inner Wheel Fund projects that benefit children in need and women facing hardship.

A Tribute to a Stuttgart Legend

The film CRANKO tells the life story of the great choreographer John Cranko, who transformed the Stuttgart Ballet in the 1960s from a small company into an internationally celebrated ensemble — making Stuttgart a world center of dance.
Director Joachim A. Lang, renowned for his sensitive portrayals of artists, created a film about art and reality, about people and their relationships, about love and death.
During the discussion that followed, Lang offered the audience exclusive insights into the making of the film and reflected on Cranko’s legacy, which continues to shape the city’s cultural life to this day.

Friendship, Helpfulness, and Responsibility

The Inner Wheel Club Stuttgart is part of Inner Wheel International, the world’s largest women’s service network, with over 100,000 members in 104 countries. The Stuttgart Club currently counts 65 members and supports social projects both locally and internationally.

“It was a great honor to welcome Prof. Dr. Lang and a moving experience to watch this extraordinary film together and discuss it afterward,” said Anna-Maria Krauth-Huber, one of the event organizers. “Moments like this connect art, compassion, and humanity in a truly special way.”

About Inner Wheel
Inner Wheel is the world’s largest women’s service organization and has been committed for over 100 years to social projects, education, health, and international understanding. Worldwide, the organization unites more than 108,000 women in over 100 countries — including 8,146 members in 218 clubs across Germany, all of whom dedicate their time and energy to serving society on a voluntary basis.

In District 86 (Southwest Germany) alone, 1,516 women across 42 clubs raised a remarkable €2.4 million in donations during 2024/2025. These funds supported 584 projects for children, 288 initiatives for women, 136 programs for seniors, 70 drug assistance projects, and 142 additional social causes.
This impressive record was presented at the 68th District Conference in July 2025 at the Sparkassenakademie Baden-Württemberg, with keynote addresses from State Parliament President Muhterem Aras MdL, Dr. Frank Nopper, Mayor of Stuttgart, and Dr. Matthias Neth, President of the Baden-Württemberg Savings Banks Association.

Our work addresses some of today’s most pressing social issues:

Volunteering and social responsibility

Women in leadership and visibility

Education and equal opportunity

Social cohesion

A recent example is our nationwide project “Leuchttürme” (Lighthouses), which celebrated its grand finale in Stuttgart from September 20–22, 2024, marking the 100th anniversary of Inner Wheel. Since the beginning of the year, ten children’s homes in independent sponsorship have already been supported with material donations — driven by a wave of dedication and solidarity. We are now approaching the milestone of €200,000 in donations, a visible testament to the power and impact of women’s commitment.
