BMZ E.Volution Center Develops the Batteries of the Future

The international headquarters of the BMZ Group will be launching the E.Volution Center starting in September 2017. Over 150 developers will be developing the energy storage systems of the future in Karlstein am Main in Aschaffenburg under the leadership of Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Dirk Oestreich. Approx. 200 new battery systems for cars, bicycles, gardening equipment, medical products, and other applications will be developed each year in the BMZ E.Volution Center. “Battery systems are becoming smaller and lighter weight, even as run times are becoming longer, and as devices are able to work within a wider temperature range and charge more quickly – to name just some of the innovations in the field,” explains Sven Bauer, CEO & Founder of the BMZ Group. These innovations have made BMZ GmbH the largest manufacturer of system solutions in Europe, and the company continues to grow by 30-50 percent each year.

“Everything from a Single Source” – Made in Germany

Employees at the BMZ E.Volution Center develop all of the components needed for modern, high-powered lithium-ion batteries, from concept to series production. In addition to battery cell experts, designers, hardware and software developers, testing engineers, prototype engineers, and welding technology specialists work in the E.Volution Center. The Center focuses on thermal management, charging technology, and many other innovative topics. Product and project managers ensure that developments are completed in time. Customers receive comprehensive solutions for a wide variety of applications from the E.Volution Center. BMZ offers both first level and second level support, and serves as a contact for battery recycling and reuse (second life).

Advantages of Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion battery technologies by BMZ replace maintenance-intensive lead batteries. The advantages of this technology are its fast charging capability and its long 8 year service life. BMZ is a system supplier for many types of products with lithium-ion applications such as energy storage systems, E-bikes, large-scale batteries for buses, forklifts, E-boats, industrial trucks, street sweepers, aerospace applications, power and garden tools, and medical equipment.

Fully Automated Production with Laser Welding Robots

Using laser welding robots allows for high welding speeds and a higher degree of automation. Other advantages include good reliability, high connection quality, extremely high measurement precision, and streamlined weld seams. Products offer consistent quality and low manufacturing costs.

Tests and Licensing

BMZ works closely with Batteryuniversity GmbH to fulfill all safety requirements and obtain all licenses necessary for global shipment and marketing. For customers, the benefit of this collaboration is being able to quickly and reliably obtain all licenses necessary for a specific country from a single source.

Strong Growth – BMZ Is One of “Bavaria’s Best 50”

For the fourth time, BMZ GmbH has now been named one of “Bavaria’s Best 50” by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Traffic, and Technology. BMZ GmbH was honored for its especially strong growth. BMZ achieved above-average growth in revenues and employee numbers over the past few years. The company’s revenues were roughly 460 million USD at the end of 2016. Currently, the BMZ Group has around 2,300 employees worldwide.
