Developed to meet the most stringent requirements in the day-to-day use of fire brigades, 3M is introducing the premium version of its 5600 series, the new 3M Scotchlite Reflective Material 5697.  The material, which is transferred on rather than sewn, is designed for longevity and is certified for 50 wash cycles according to the ISO 6330-6N standard.  It is particularly light and breathable.

The reflective material 5697 in the yellow-silver-yellow design is, thanks to the special segmentation, highly flexible and no longer as stiff as conventional materials – an important advantage for fire brigade uniforms which are already heavy.  In addition, the reflective strip is less heavy and lighter, which increases wearing comfort and opens up new design opportunities.  Extinguishing water flows away faster and no longer collects on the strip.  Another vital feature of the reflective material is that the risk of contamination of the uniform is reduced, since no harmful substances can collect behind the material.

Robust and durable

Alongside the high wearing comfort, the new reflective transfer film is convincing in economic terms: the maintenance effort is reduced as the material itself cannot come unstitched under difficult working conditions.  With 50 washing cycles, according to ISO 6330-6N, the reflective material also fulfils the highest demands on its longevity and robustness.  A further aspect:  When reflective strips are sewn on, the membrane must then be resealed.  This processing step is superfluous with the new transfer film.
