MSC Technologies, a company of Avnet (NYSE: AVT), simplifies the development of compact high-end embedded systems and presents high-performance starter kits for its Type 6 COM Express™ module families MSC C6C-KLU and MSC C6B-KLH. Both product families are based on the latest 7th generation Intel® Core™ processors (codenamed ‘Kaby Lake’). The kits enable the user to operate and test the computers-on-module (COM) on a proven platform that is ready to run. The starter kits and the COM Express™ modules are developed and manufactured in Germany by MSC Technologies.

The MSC C6-SK- KLU and MSC C6-SK- KLH starter kits contain a base board in mini-ITX format, memory modules (SO-DIMM), heat sinks and a suitable power supply. The universal carrier board has a COM Express™ base for Type 6 modules (compact or basic format) and features a wide range of common interfaces such as PCIe, SATA, USB 3.0 and 2.0, GbE LAN, LPC, UART, GPIO and HD Audio. Graphics output is via DisplayPort, embedded DisplayPort (eDP) and LVDS. Also, the carrier board has a PCI Express Mini Card socket for functional extensions as well as an SD card slot.

The Type 6 COM Express™ module families MSC C6C-KLU and MSC C6B-KLH from MSC Technologies that have only recently become available outdo the previous generation with Intel® Core™ 6th generation processors with significantly more performance for the same power consumption. Certain module variants are also available with Intel® Celeron®– und Xeon® processors. The compact-format MSC C6C-KLU modules measuring 95 x 95 mm have a typical power consumption of only 17 – 19 W, making them suitable for designing compact high-end systems. The high-performance MSC C6B-KLH boards with a basic form factor of 125 x 95 mm typically have a power consumption between 35 and 55 W. Typical areas of use are automation, image processing, telecommunications, medical and POS/POI.
