Drawing on decades of experience in the automotive industry, Schlemmer is now increasingly using its injection moulding expertise in the industry sector. The Industry Business Unit not only benefits from this know-how, but also from the worldwide network of state-of-the-art injection moulding plants and competence centres. This new sales direction opens up an extended product portfolio with new applications for the industry sector. In addition, customer requirements can be better satisfied. The focus of the presentation at the sps ipc drives trade fair is on hybrid process technology – the combination of two or more materials.

Hybrid products are produced by using an injection moulding process, for example the inlay technique. Here, various materials and components are placed into an injection mould, fixed and in the next production step (injection moulding) combined into one component. The advantages of this are that not only can different functions be combined in one product, but also the mechanical rigidity of the finished product is increased. In addition, the hybrid construction can help to reduce the subsequent space requirement in the installation space at the customer’s premises. In addition, the cost of the component in comparison to conventional production decreases significantly; the functionality of the components is ensured in the long term and the durability significantly extended, since the otherwise necessary assembly steps are eliminated. Acid, cold or heat sensitive interfaces such as seals are no longer needed as all components are protected by the plastic body which is usually completely closed.
