YXLON, an enterprise of the Swiss Comet Group, continues to pioneer in the field of non-destructive material testing and computed tomography with the introduction of the FF85 CT. The new CT inspection system sets new standards for ease of use and overall system flexibility. With features such as dual X-ray tube configuration and high-precision granite manipulator providing up to 7 axes, the FF85 CT is an all-round CT system for the testing of both small and large parts as well as materials of varying densities. It also runs on the Geminy software platform already in use in the more compact YXLON FF20 CT and FF35 CT systems. Geminy is the first inspection system interface that offers users intuitive smart-touch operation, remote monitoring, push notifications, and multiple user profiles, making it possible to operate the system without technical expertise.

Equipped with both an open microfocus tube with up to 225kV as well as a minifocus tube with up to 450kV and a choice of flat panel detectors, the FF85 CT is the ideal solution for a wide range of different parts and materials like aluminum, steel, additively manufactured components, fiber composite material, mechatronic modules, as well as geological and biological samples. Its applicability spans a myriad of industries, academic fields, research and development projects, and industrial processes and production control. The first FF85 CT system has already been installed at Siemens in Berlin. “In the end, what convinced us was the unique combination of component size and resolution quality,” said Andreas Kreutzer, Development Engineer at the Siemens gas turbine plant in Berlin and Laboratory Manager Sebastian Wallich. “We have not found another company that can accommodate such a broad component size spectrum while maintaining such a high resolution. The intuitive operation is also a big plus. Therefore, we are pleased that the FF85 CT will support us in the future in the development and quality control of additively manufactured components and oil furnace components.”

The new CT algorithms ensure optimum image resolution with a greater measuring circle. The innovative ScanExtend feature allows for horizontal measuring circle extension and is ideal for scanning larger components or maximizing magnification on smaller components. The scan is carried out through one continuous rotation of the test piece and is immediately reconstructed without artifacts. This feature saves a lot of time when compared to the more commonly used “stitching” algorithms.

Additionally, features like virtual rotation axis and HeliExtend (Helical CT) increase the applicability, quality of the tests, and efficiency for the user. The latest element, HeliExtend Dual (helical CT with horizontal measuring circle extension), takes advantage of trajectories and maximizes the test space.

After the successful launch of the YXLON FF20 CT and FF35 CT at the Control trade show in 2014 and the launch of the FF20/35 CT Metrology versions at the Control show 2017, YXLON adds yet another state-of-the-art member to the new generation of CT systems, offering customers maximum flexibility and usability.

Über die YXLON International GmbH

YXLON International designs and produces radioscopic and CT inspection systems for the widest variety of applications and fields. Whether situated in the aviation & aerospace, automotive or electronics industry, our customers are among the largest producers, major enterprises that place their confidence in our quality worldwide.

The name YXLON stands for assurance and quality for all types of cast parts, tires, electronic components, turbine blades, welded joints and a lot more. Our product portfolio includes X-ray systems for installation in radiological inspection envelopes, universal X-ray inspection systems on the basis of fully shielded devices, as well as solutions specific to a customer. Whether in manual, semi or fully automated operation, our inspection systems are ideal for deployment in research & development and can be integrated into any production process.

CT systems have been an integral part of our product portfolio since as far back as 2003. Computed tomography provides a three-dimensional insight into inspection items, thus enabling the analysis of inner structures, dimensional measurement tasks in metrology applications or actual-to-nominal comparisons to CAD data, to name only a few examples. Besides delivering a more precise inspection evaluation when compared with radiography, computed tomography also provides valuable information about the production process. Above and beyond such advantages, our microfocus systems permit highly detailed looks into the most intricate structures and tiniest components.

With our headquarters in Hamburg, sales and service locations in Tokyo, Osaka, Hudson (Ohio), San Jose (California), Beijing, Shanghai, Hattingen and Heilbronn, as well as a network of representatives in over 50 countries, as YXLON we’re local for our customers all over the world.

Since 2007, YXLON International has been a member of the COMET Group.
