CADENAS GmbH, norelem Normelemente KG, the Bundesarbeitskreis Fachschule für Technik (Federal Working Group Technical College) and Solidpro GmbH have been offering a platform for 5 years now for pupils and students from technical subjects of universities and technical colleges in order to demonstrate their talent. With their project designs created as part of a student research project, they can present their own ideas, show the skills they have acquired and win cash prizes for themselves as well as for their education institutions. In this way, the Engineering Newcomer competition also serves as a career springboard for the young professionals.  This has gained so much popularity that last year international participants and entire school classes from Europe, South America and India participated.

New: Online registration!

This year the participants have to complete a registration form beforehand, free of charge, at www.engineering-newcomer.com and then receive an e-mail with an upload link to submit their project data such as photos, PDFs and videos. "Online registration has become necessary for organizational reasons, since more and more participants are signing up – after registering, however, there is absolutely no obligations," assures Jürgen Heimbach, CEO of CADENAS.

Minimum effort – maximum benefit

The participants only need a project they have created – or a thesis – as part of their study or training in the area of engineering and development. The project will be evaluated by a jury of experts based on the following aspects, for example: How interesting and original is the design? How high is its practical value and technological benefit? How will the desired function in the design solution be realized and practically implemented?

Attractive cash prizes and a lot of attention for young talent for their projects as well as their education institutions

The Engineering Newcomer competition is the ideal opportunity for pupils and students to obtain considerable attention for their own engineering project and an award, which can increase career opportunities for their future professional life. Moreover, the competition entices with attractive cash prizes for the participating students and pupils as well as their colleges or schools. 2.000 euros for the winners and their school, 1.000 euros for second place and 500 euros for third place. The winning schools will also receive the Engineering Newcomer Seal in gold, silver and bronze, which they can place on their own websites. And last but not least, norelem, as a renowned provider of flexible standard parts, will supply the winners with components, free of charge, for the implementation of their projects.

Which education institution has the most talented junior engineers?

The all-time list of the Engineering Newcomer competition provides information about which schools belong to the most creative of engineering schools. The Munich Technical College currently heads the list with a total of 20 points, closely followed by the Technical College Mühlhausen with 18 points in second place. We are eager to see how the ranking of the most creative education institutions will change during the 5th Engineering Newcomer and which college or school will enjoy first place and an additional cash gift of 500 euros this year.

Take part directly in the Engineering Newcomer 2018!

The projects can be uploaded here as of now. Entry deadline is 07/31/2018.
