If you want to benefit from the IIoT, then you need flexible tools to collect, store and transfer mass data (Big Data). Up to now, machine data logger used to fulfil these tasks, but the storage medium (e. g. SD card) had to be emptied on a regular basis. EdgeCS eliminates this time-consuming task because the data is stored online in a noSQL database. This allows any application to access the data easily – independent of location and entirely in line with the Internet of Things (IoT).
Originally planned as a tool for mass data collection, the new Edge Computing Suite was additionally equipped with its own visualization. Collected data can be displayed online with just a few clicks and merged into dashboards. By the way, EdgeCS is also suitable for the collection of mass data for further processing in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) HYDRA from MPDV.
MPDV Mikrolab GmbH (www.mpdv.com), headquartered in Mosbach, Germany, develops modular Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and reverts to over 40 years of project experience in the pro-duction environment. MPDV offers MES products, services for the MES environment and complete MES solutions. MPDV currently employs more than 380 people at ten sites in Germany, Switzerland, France, Singapore, China and the USA. Users from different industrial sectors – from metal processing to the plastics industry to medical technology – already benefit from more than 1,000 installations of MPDV’s award-winning MES solutions. Amongst the users are medium sized production companies and also internationally operating groups. As a TOP 100 business, MPDV is one of the most innovative medium-sized companies in Germany.
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) support companies to make their production processes more efficient and increase productivity and therefore, to safeguard the company’s competitiveness. A state-of-the-art MES enables companies to capture, analyze, and display real-time data along the entire value chain. The responsible employees can react to unplanned events in the short term and start ap-propriate countermeasures in the production routine. An MES supports on all levels, both in short term and also far-reaching decisions by providing a reliable database.
HYDRA, the modular MES by MPDV, fully covers the requirements of the VDI guideline 5600 with its extensive functional spectrum. Individual HYDRA applications can be combined on a central MES data-base in line with requirements and without interfaces. Thus, HYDRA ensures a 360-degree view of all the resources involved in production and can also seamlessly map overlapping processes. Powerful tools for configuration and customizing ensure that HYDRA can be modified to meet specific require-ments for certain industries and companies. HYDRA integrates into existing IT landscapes and serves as a link between the production (shop floor) and the management level (eg ERP system). With an MES system like HYDRA, manufacturing companies remain responsive and thus secure their competi-tiveness – also with a view to Industry 4.0.
