• Fuel cell ensures uninterrupted power supply to the telecommunication tower in case of power outages
  • Order builds on the success of SFC EFOY Pro fuel cells in other Calzavara applications

SFC Energy, a leading provider of hybrid power solutions to the stationary and mobile power generation markets, has received an order from Calzavara S.p.A., Basiliano, Italy, for SFC Energy’s most powerful industrial fuel cell, the EFOY Pro 12000 Duo. The fuel cell is used as back-up power source for off-grid telecommunication stations.

Calzavara S.p.A. is a system integrator specializing on urban, off-grid, and mobile telecommunications applications. Calzavara uses SFC Energy’s fuel cells for ensuring uninterrupted operation of their systems and accessories in off-grid radio stations all over Italy. For optimum cost of ownership, Calzavara hybridizes fuel cells and solar modules.

In this latest order, which builds on the earlier success of EFOY Pro fuel cells in their applications, Calzavara uses the EFOY Pro 12000 as a back-up power source for a remote radio base station on top of a Northern Italian mountain at an altitude of 1,800 m. In this scenario the fuel cell is hybridized with a solar module and will only start operation, when the solar module will not produce enough power in bad weather or in winter.

“We have investigated into many alternative power sources”, says Andrea Comuzzi, Calzavara S.p.A. “We have selected the EFOY Pro 12000 Duo fuel cell because of its anti-freeze function and the enormous energy storage of 124 kWh which we can hold on-site with the EFOY fuel cartridges. With the EFOY Pro we can be sure that our radio systems will work reliably in the mountains and autonomously 24/7 in any season and weather.”

“Our fuel cells offer a unique combination of power reliability, high-tech performance, weather-independence, green energy and user convenience”, says Dr. Peter Podesser. “They also significantly expand the power autonomy of the devices, thus saving operators costly service trips to the site. Their attractive cost of ownership is a significant advantage for everybody who needs to ensure the uninterrupted operation of their off-grid equipment.”
