The new report in the Quest Trend Magazine publishes from the study the degrees of realization of Industry 4.0 in machine automation in ten sectors of mechanical engineering.

The "degrees of realization" correspond to the five development stages in which Industry 4.0 is realized as a process. This starts with planned changes, continues with isolated implementations and extends to Industry 4.0 in subsystems and finally as system solution covering the entire machine/plant.

The study has examined eleven automation areas at the machines in numerous discussions with machine builders. These automation areas concern, among other things, changes in machine operation such as interactive or multimodal operation, use of apps and smartphones, etc., networking of the machine in MES, ERP, local, national and international for process control, enabling a self-optimizing production process for end customers, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, energy-efficient, networked drives with intelligent energy and load management.

The report cites the latter automation area as examples of the degree to which Industry 4.0 has been implemented.

The report shows that on average of the ten sectors one third of industry 4.0 implementations consists of system solutions, a further 41% Industry 4.0 is implemented in sub-areas of machine automation.

The robotics and automation sector is at the top of the list of sectors with regard to the implementation of Industry 4.0. The ranking is completed by woodworking machines.

This ranking does not represent an evaluation but documents the extent to which Industry 4.0 should lead to create customer benefits.
