Fully assembled, ready-to-connect cables from a single source deliver high quality and save time. Just two reasons why these kinds of systems solutions in connection technology are becoming increasingly popular. LAPP recognised this at an early stage and sells an extensive range of products, from simple customised cable assemblies to servo assemblies for connecting servo motors in compliance with the leading manufacturers’ standards right through to ready-to-install power chain systems. Machinery and plant engineers will be able to see examples at the LAPP stand (Hall X, Stand Y) at the SPS IPC Drives 2018 exhibition. The ÖLFLEX® CONNECT CHAIN configurator is one highlight. Users can use it to digitally engineer a power chain online with just a few clicks of the mouse. Configuring power chains is no longer a complicated task as this tool makes it easy, even for less experienced users. The ÖLFLEX® CONNECT CHAIN configurator automatically switches off all error sources and always finds the best solution.

No chance of misconfiguration
The online configurator acts as a step-by-step guide through the choice of cable chain, cables and relevant accessories. It makes sure that components are compatible every step of the way, especially when it comes to the cables’ minimum bend radius. The cable chain must not have a smaller bend radius than the cables, otherwise malfunctions may occur and the cables’ life cycle will be curtailed. If this is the case, the configurator will display a warning message and suggest other types of cable chain. Other criteria include the travel length, acceleration, temperature behaviour and shielding. The configurator automatically excludes cables that are not suitable for the application. If required, it can position separators and shelves and makes sure that the weight of the cables is evenly distributed in the power chain. When the configuration is complete, the customer receives a personalised quotation. The customer can then choose whether they want to purchase the power chain fully assembled by LAPP or as individual components, with the option of having the cables pre-cut to the appropriate lengths. If the customer opts for the former, all components are guaranteed to be in perfect working order and the fully assembled chain will undergo extensive testing before it is shipped.
