The Quest Industry Report compares growth expectations of the sector conveyor with those of the German machinery industry. The data come from a market survey conducted by Quest TechnoMarketing, which examined the use of servo drives at machines up to 2020. The market survey focused on the ten automation-relevant mechanical engineering sectors which, according to Quest TechnoMarketing’s estimate, use 80% of automation technology in the entire machinery industry.

The growth expectations to 2020 of the machinery industry in terms of machine production are 5.5% per year. Machine-builders in the sector conveyor are somewhat more optimistic. Their growth expectations are one percentage point higher at 6.5% per year.

The extent of the growth shows clear differences between conveyor and machinery industry.

The share of conveyor to the range of more than 5% to 10% growth in machine production per year is with 33% more pronounced than in mechanical engineering with 26%. High growth expectations of more than 10% per year do not occur in conveyor but in machinery industry with a share of 15%.

Clear differences can be seen in the expected decline in machine production. In machinery industry, 1% of machine-builders expect a decline in their machine production by 2020. In conveyor more than one in ten machine-builders (11%) expects a decline in production by 2020.

Various influencing factors are reflected in the differentiated picture of growth expectations. These also include the industry structure of conveyor, which shows an above-average share of medium-sized manufacturers as a further Quest industry report outlines.
