iiM AG presents its proven LightGuide technology in a new format as part of its LUMIMAX® range: thanks to an optimised housing design, the LG2020/FL and LGCB2020/FL series can be deployed even where conditions offer very little space for installation.

Despite their compact housing, the new lighting series provide a lighted area measuring 200 × 200 mm – which means even larger objects can be adequately illuminated. Thanks to the innovative LightGuide technology, the light from these models’ high-performance LEDs is outcoupled over the entire illuminated area.

The LG2020/FL series can be used not only for backlight applications – for inspecting contours, for example – but also for detecting objects’ rotational orientation and position. The especially high-contrast illumination, which is achieved with collimation, means that even transparent or semi-transparent objects like scratches, inclusions and engravings can be inspected. Precise measurement tasks that require the exact scanning of object edges can be performed under collimated backlighting.

Reflected light applications are also possible with both series, and especially the LGCB2020/FL, which features a 35 mm camera hole to enable direct illumination of objects from the direction of the camera. Reflected light can be used for assembly, type and position detection works, as well as overprint inspections. Maximum homogeneity is achieved here by the use of diffuse directed lighting.

The lighting series features a compact aluminium housing suitable for high IP ratings up to IP64. This means that the lighting units can also be used under harsh industrial conditions. Cooling fins on the back of the housing ensure stable lighting conditions over a long service life.

A controller is also built directly into the housing: this is set at the factory for maximum performance and safety, so as to reduce the level of effort required during commissioning. The lighting series can be configured either with permanent and switching mode or with flash operation. Flash times from 10 to 750 μs enable the illumination of very fast motion without ambient light interference, as well as light-critical applications. The TTL and PLC inputs provided offer zero-delay triggering and flash operation of the lighting parallel to image acquisition. The control voltage can be used to adjust the brightness of the lighting to the respective test situation during operation.

As with all high-power area lighting products in the LUMIMAX® LG series, LG2020/FL and LGCB2020/FL series units are offered in the standard colour temperatures red (625 nm), blue (470 nm), green (528 nm) and infrared (850 nm), plus white (6000 K). This enables the generation of individual lighting solutions for a wide variety of applications.
