Recycling has been an important topic at VW Wolfsburg for many years. Now, the automobile manufacturer, which is succesful worldwide, has found a strong and professional recycling partner with ATM Recyclingsystems.

With the help of high-performance metal recycling technology from ATM, VW is perfectly equipped for the continually growing requirements concerning the efficient treatment of secondary raw material.

ATM baling presses produce especially manageable and pure bales and are used for the treatment of metal sheet- and stamping waste, which is generated in large quantities in the automotive industry.

The applied presses packetize metal sheet with a power of 3500 KN. Thereby, VW presses 700 tons of metal sheet per day and hour in three-shift operation. Immediately after pressing, the bales are transported to a smelting company by rail. The tailor-made recycling system consisting of a baling press and an integrated screen drum is perfectly geared to the needs of VW and thereby guarantees efficient and economic metal recycling.

Baling by ATM Recyclingsystems

Over 80 years of experience in the field of metal recycling are the basis for a solid construction combined with modern technology and high-quality hydraulic components. Quality, efficiency as well as a great deal of flexibility have made ATM a competent partner for many renowned automobile manufacturers.

During the baling process, mainly metal sheet and stamping waste is processed. The applied presses compress the material in up to 3 compressor stages, the third stage being the 600tons main compressor stage.

The bale sizes range from 300×300 mm to 1000x1000mm. Through the baling process, an especially high degree of material purity is reached which serves a better processability in the melting process.

ATM offers individual and tailor-made solutions according to its customers’ requirements. For example, a 350 K ATM baling press with integrated drum screen is used at VW. The integrated drum screen automatically eliminates metal pieces that are too small and thereby avoids a fast abrasion of wear plates.

The product range in the field of baling presses ranges from car crusher APD to the can end press SPD, where the cover cuts and the press force is applied from several directions with one, two or three compression steps.

All parts coming into contact with scrap are lined with high-strength wear plates with a special trapeze-shaped profile, which helps to reduce wear costs to a minimum. Each machine can be controlled manually or automatically via a modem.
