nextLAP GmbH (www.nextlap.de) launches the world’s first 4G/5G pick-by-light application. The specialist in IoT-based production and logistics solutions thereby offers a plug-and-play solution that doesn’t require a traditional network infrastructure any longer. The resulting order-picking processes are faster, more flexible, efficient and cost-effective to implement, leading to significant savings in terms of time and costs. At its lab in Munich, nextLAP is currently working on a pilot version in collaboration with a leading automotive OEM and Vodafone.

As a provider of AI-based solutions for the digital management and automation of production and logistics processes, nextLAP’s solutions enable the digitisation and automation of all types of order-picking processes.

Thanks to 4G/5G connectivity, pick-by-light processes are faster and easier to implement, as they can be deployed whether or not a network infrastructure is in place.

New generation smartCONTROLLER makes production more efficient

Until now, the smartCONTROLLER developed by nextLAP, which forms the basis of the 4G/5G pick-by-light application, was connected to the production network via Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as well as by cable. The solution is now 4G/5G-ready. The shop floor gateway acts as a bridge between IIoT hardware on the shop floor and the nextLAP AI production process platform IP/1. This cloud-based platform, another product of nextLAP’s in-house development, is a data hub with real-time evaluation.

The smartCONTROLLER connects nextLAP’s proprietary IIoT hardware and is also plug-and-play-compatible with intelligent third-party hardware such as data glasses, scanners, cameras and driverless transport systems (DTS).

“The new 4G/5G-ready smartCONTROLLER makes pick-by-light applications faster and easier to implement, resulting in optimised production and logistics processes”, explains André Ziemke, Managing Director of nextLAP GmbH.

Über die nextLAP GmbH

nextLAP Inc. was founded in late 2016 by former Audi managers and is based in Mountain View, California. Based on many years of profound industry experience in Production, Logistics & IT, the company developed the AI Production-Process-Platform IP/1. It brings together Engineering & Execution of any Manufacturing & Logistics processes, pushing towards the self-optimizing Factory of the Future that autonomously takes decisions based on AI. nextLAP’s SmartRack product family enables their customers to digitize Production and Logistics processes themselves. The big data obtained from the digitized processes is played back to the AI Production-Process-Platform IP/1. Using algorithms and artificial intelligence, improvement measures and alternative actions for decision making are generated real-time. All nextLAP’s solutions are leased "as a service" on a monthly basis with no fixed term; usage, maintenance and support are included. The company’s customers include leading premium automotive manufacturers in the USA and Germany. (www.nextlap.io)
