Electronic devices have become an indispensable part of everyday hospital life, especially portable equipment which is used more and more. In order to protect these various devices against external influences in the hospital environment, such as dirt and liquids, FutureNova developed the FlipPad™, which is precisely tailored to the conditions and requirements in medical facilities.

FutureNova’s headquarters are based in Chelmsford in the county of Essex, England. They have specialized in the development and design of accessories for mobile communication devices, predominantly for the medical sector.

Apple awarded FutureNova a special "Made for IPad" development license in 2015. As a result, they developed the iPad cover FlipPad™. This product is designed to protect the sensitive electronic device against liquids and chemicals such as disinfectants. Due to the high hygiene requirements in the hospital sector, it is important that the surface of the FlipPad™ is easy and safe to clean with disinfectant spray. In addition, the iPad must also be easy to use with medical gloves. The user-friendliness is guaranteed by the extremely touch-sensitive panel of the FlipPad™. For comfortable operation, the FlipPad™ can be attached to the patient’s bed using a sturdy bracket. The handle can also be placed comfortably over the arm so that the device can be operated safely even when held in the hand.

To make sure that the equipment has achieved the desired IP rating, a specially applied foam bead ensures impermeability and is resistant to all chemicals commonly used in hospitals. The application of the foam bead is carried out by CeraCon. CeraCon is a German company specializing in the application of 1K polyurethane foam. The mechanical engineering company has been offering foam sealing technology and the equipment for almost 20 years.

In 2013, CeraCon UK was created and is located in Leamington Spa, England. CeraCon UK apply 1K component foam to a wide variety of components on a contract gasketing basis – such as the FlipPad™. Due to its excellent sealing properties, CeraCon sealing material is perfectly suited for use as a dirt or moisture barrier. The predominantly closed-cell structure of the one-component material ensures that moisture cannot enter products even under the most difficult conditions or if the surface of the foam gasket is damaged. In addition, the sealing material is characterized by very low water absorption and has a high tear resistance. These properties ensure optimum protection and sealing ability – even in the most sensitive hospital environments
