Cooperation of HANSER Fachbuchverlag and Matplus GmbH for a digital knowledge base – new perspectives for the comparison of materials for design engineers and process engineers

As a first result of a cooperation between HANSER Fachbuchverlag and Matplus GmbH, creep data for metallic alloys are now available online. Designers and process engineers thus have direct comparative access to the data available so far only in book form. This allows material alternatives to be found faster and more safely, resulting in superior products through practical material innovations.

Heat resistant steels as well as nickel and cobalt alloys are indispensable materials for high temperature applications. Important fields of application are, for example, chemical and plant engineering, energy and environmental technology as well as aerospace and the automotive industry. The strength and creep resistance of these materials as a function of temperature and time determine the performance and resource efficiency of the products. This important data, together with a comprehensive knowledge base, is now available in a new online system.

It was not until March 2019 that HANSER-Fachbuchverlag published a worldwide unique knowledge base in this field in book form: the renowned expert and author Dr. med. Ulrich Brill has created a reference work that summarizes the available creep data base from numerous international sources for currently about 300 alloys (199 steels, 77 nickel alloys and 23 cobalt alloys).

In cooperation between HANSER-Fachbuchverlag, Matplus GmbH and Dr. med. Ulrich Brill has now created a digital knowledge base that opens up new perspectives for the user:

  • All data is available in a multilingual version in different units. Summary tables allow easy filtering and comparison of data. A full-text index complements the numeric queries.
  • Interactive graphics allow a superposition of data from different materials, texts, formulas and references are linked to the data.
  • The knowledge base is versatile: easy access is an annual subscription to the continuously maintained online version. In addition, the system can also be deployed for the corporate intranet.

The new online offer complements the online knowledge base "StahlDat SX", previously available at Matplus, which is the leading online system for steel data in Europe at www.stahldaten.de. An integration of the creep data into the steel data takes place as the next step. "This will enable customers to have all the relevant data available for comprehensive analysis in one system," explains Dr. Uwe Diekmann, Managing Director of Matplus GmbH the advantages for users.

For HANSER Fachbuchverlag, this form of publication opens up new markets: In contrast to the book, the online system is multilingual, so that the potential clientele is expanded. "The cooperation with Matplus enables us to transfer knowledge directly to the user’s workplace," confirms Michael Justus, publishing director of the specialist book at Hanser Verlag.
