TÜV Rheinland, a global service provider in the field of cybersecurity, will be exhibiting at this year’s it-sa trade show in Nuremberg from October 8 – 10. it-sa is Europe’s leading IT security and cybersecurity exhibition. According to the motto "Securing today. Safer tomorrow.", TÜV Rheinland will be focused on the security of industrial control systems – also known as Operational Technology (OT). “Increasing hacker attacks on worldwide industrial IT and OT infrastructures in recent years show that preventive protection alone is not enough. Companies have to engage in active defense against complex cybersecurity threats,“ says Wolfgang Kiener, expert for industrial connectivity and cybersecurity at TÜV Rheinland.

Establishment of defense centers

The consequences of a cyberattack on OT control systems can be devastating in magnitude – from internal production disruptions to effects on daily life. Because OT not only controls industrial plants, but also regulates traffic infrastructure, power grids and power plants, companies need to protect their OT and IT infrastructures effectively. For example an organization might utilize special defense centers that focus on enterprise-wide attack detection. The experts from TÜV Rheinland will provide information on concrete approaches to active hazard prevention at the trade show in Hall 10.0, Stand 10.0-511.

Lectures on information security

Wolfgang Kiener and the exhibition team will also provide information and advice on the operation of industrial OT environments. In addition, TÜV Rheinland experts Gianluca Bonanno and Stefan Eigler will give lectures on other cybersecurity topics such as “Red Team Testing“, “Defense Center“ and “Data Protection in the Company“ each day at the TÜV Rheinland booth. A live hacking session will also demonstrate to visitors how active cyber defense can work. Laslty, booth visitors can participate in a raffle as part of a trade fair rally.
