The charging station of the future works efficiently and cost-effectively with intelligent load management. It supports bi-directional communication with the vehicle in accordance with ISO15118 and can be updated. In addition, it also meets the requirements of German measurement and calibration law in applications where the power consumption is invoiced in kWh.

AC charging stations can be found for example at home, in hotels, in public car parks or in workplaces. AC charging has the major advantage that the existing AC 230 V/400 V power supply can be used, and that the charging infrastructure can even be connected to it by an electrician.

DYNAMIC LOAD MANAGEMENT (DLM)

For operators, intelligent distribution of the available energy and maintaining a stable power supply grid are becoming increasingly important challenges that need to be solved.

Future-proof charging infrastructure units support a load management system capable of controlling up to 250 charging points within a local eDLM network. To do this, the entire energy that is available is distributed in a highly dynamic and effective way using different profiles so that the shared supply line is not overloaded. The Bender CC612 charge controller, which is equipped with integrated dynamic load management (eDLM) software, performs the role of a master controller here.

The eDLM software, which is continuously updated and developed, is compatible with other charging points from all manufacturers who also rely on Bender technology. This enables operators to easily expand their charging park independently of the manufacturer.

FUTURE-PROOF CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE

Free software updates (typically on a quarterly basis) guarantee that the charging systems are up to date and thus help to reflect dynamic developments in the market. The controllers support the OCPP1.6 protocols as well as 4G modem, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, making them very easy to connect. Remote service for fault identification is possible, as is on-site management. Updates and configurations can also be uploaded and duplicated via a service USB stick.

With the increasing importance of PLC communication in accordance with ISO15118, the charging station is capable of implementing Plug & Charge as well as bi-directional communication with the vehicle as the basis for intelligent connection to energy management systems (EMS).

BILLING OPTIONS IN COMPLIANCE WITH GERMAN CALIBRATION LAW

The technical basis for billing in compliance with German calibration law is provided by the combination of the CC612 charge controller, the EMH energy meter and the transparency software. The multi-vendor transparency software ensures legal certainty when it comes to kWh-accurate billing. Thanks to the generic nature of the solution, operators of charging infrastructure (CPO), backend operators and end customers are no longer forced to opt for a proprietary combination of charging point hardware and backend.

COST EFFECTIVENESS AND AVAILABILITY COMBINED

To enable easy maintenance and low end customer prices, the components of future-proof charging infrastructure should be common, easily available items. The use of the charge controller in charging points of many different manufacturers ensures not only a high level of compatibility between them, but also avoids the need for expensive in-house developments: collectively, everyone benefits from the developments made by Bender.

The charging point features an RFID reader, which as a minimum can read RFID-MiFare cards and use them for authorisation. Software updates for the RFID algorithms support future developments in terms of data security.

Alternatively, authentication can be provided via a remote start from the backend (e.g. via a mobile app) or via the ISO standard 15118 (Plug & Charge). Free charging without authorisation can also be configured.

ADDITIONAL SECURITY AND USER ACCEPTANCE

Patented electronic DC fault monitoring integrated in the CC612 charge controller replaces the need for an expensive type B RCD. The significantly cheaper combination of electronic DC fault monitoring and a type A RCD meets all normative requirements for protection against fault currents. The charge controller monitors even small residual currents, which would indicate a deterioration, and reports them at an early stage – with the charging process being terminated intentionally if certain threshold values are exceeded.

This is the only way to provide the vehicle owner with specific information – even during the charging process – across different charging cycles. This information allows the vehicle owner to drive to a garage in good time, enabling him/her to actively prevent breakdowns due to vehicle ageing or undetected damage. RCDs that have been tripped unnecessarily do not need to be switched back again by service specialists after a significant period of time, which also increases the availability of the charging station itself.
