New to the programme are a large number of free events that are also designed for industry outsiders and beginners: a poster session, an industrial forum and a user forum, called "Thermal Spray in a Nutshell". Free of charge and without obligation, interested parties are invited to learn about thermal spraying capabilities and opportunities. Thermal spraying processes are just part of this year’s offering, which also features cladding and additive manufacturing.
Another highlight, especially for students and prospective scientists, is the “Young Professionals” session on the afternoon of the conference’s first day. Here, students describe their findings from academic projects or research work. The specialist audience votes on the quality of the presentations and the winner is awarded the “Oerlikon Metco Young Professionals Award”. The “ITSC Best Paper Awards” and the “René Wasserman Prize” will also be awarded.
This year, the ITSC focuses not only on trade visitors, but also explicitly targets visitors from other industries. "The ITSC is and remains a specialist conference with high scientific standards," says Dipl.-Ing. Jens Jerzembeck, head of the "Research and Technology" department at DVS and member of the ITSC programme committee. "It is precisely in this environment that it is important for us to attract people who may not yet be very familiar with coating alternatives, users who are looking for new solutions and are open to different application options."
ITSC – the International Thermal Spray Conference & Exposition will take place from June 10 to 12, 2020 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna. It is organised by Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V. (German Welding Society) in cooperation with the ASM International Association and the International Institute of Welding (IIW). The complete program is now available at: www.dvs-ev.de/itsc2020
