The German software company speedikon FM AG launches a browser-based BIM viewer enabling customers to easily view and navigate in BIM models. The innovative software corporation also offers a BIM analyzer for in-depth analyses.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is getting increasingly important as the basis for planning buildings and technical facilities. This element of digitization provides a clear added value for owners as well as operators of those objects later.

To be able to realize that benefit within a building’s life cycle, a reliable and always up to date BIM model is indispensable. However, we often encounter the following situation nowadays that neither owners nor their respective staff are directly involved in the planning process of BIM projects. In most cases, the exchange of BIM models depending on the respective building services is carried out via IFC interfaces among planning companies involved on one hand and the BIM coordinator on the other. The owner is out of the game, as he is simply not able to master the complexity behind the huge amount of IFC files coming from the planning parties involved, nor does he possess the necessary hardware or software preconditions.

This is exactly the situation that the software house is going to change and has therefore developed adequate tools. speedikon ® C BIM Viewer is a cost-effective tool that allows models to be viewed and analyzed in a web browser. For this purpose, the IFC files can be uploaded to the provided server and then opened in the browser. As models often have large dimensions, they usually tend to overload the so-called “ordinary” infrastructure. For this reason, the viewer provides specialized tools with which allows to mitigate the models, to hide or to reduce unnecessary data and objects to be able to use them everywhere. speedikon® C customers will benefit from the BIM-Viewer providing all these functionalities and even additional ones when updating to version 6.1. All other esteemed prospects may upload their models into our cloud platform and use the viewer free of charge.

To allow customers to use BIM models also during operations, a respective quality level of the model is essential. The owner, in return, needs to check on that quality, as a matter of fact. As it is the case when just contemplating models, necessary preconditions are also missing in this context.

For this reason, speedikon FM AG offers an additional analyzer whose functions go far beyond the pure display of models. The Analyzer allows users to analyze the models in depth, evaluate the maintenance status of objects and attributes, prepare the contained data for subsequent FM processes, and turn data into a suitable transfer format. Furthermore, the Analyzer can convert the geometric relationships existing in the BIM model into logical connections that can be successfully used in the FM arena.

Using the BIM Analyzer, building owners or operators ensure that the BIM model is not just a pretty 3D image, but rather providing a reliable basis for operational processes.
