A project team of users and manufacturers of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) is presenting the new VDA 5050 interface, which enables the systems and control software to communicate with each other regardless of manufacturer. The first live test of the project can be seen under the auspices of VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association at the IFOY TEST CAMP Intralogistics on March 25 and 26, 2021 in Dortmund. Ismaning near Munich, January 26, 2021. It is the first live test of the new VDA 5050 interface: the so-called AGV Mesh-Up of the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association will celebrate its world premiere at the IFOY AWARD as part of the TEST CAMP Intralogistics. On 25 and 26 March 2021, various Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), which operate under one master control and communicate in a common data language, will be on display on an action area in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle. Guests of TEST CAMP Intralogistics are high-ranking B2B trade visitors from the logistics sector.

The interface project was realised by a team of AGV users and AGV manufacturers under the coordination of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. The goal is to enable automated transport vehicles, such as tugger trains, AGVs or mobile robots, to interact with each other via the control system via plug-and-play, independent of manufacturer and system.

The event name AGV Mesh-Up is based on a mesh WLAN in which different components interlock and are seen as a uniform WLAN. The vehicles drive with different types of navigation (for example, line-guided or contour-based), but communicate with one master control in a common data language.

The companies represented at the event are arculus, DS AUTOMOTION, KION Group with its brand STILL, SAFELOG, SEW-EURODRIVE, Siemens AG and SSI SCHÄFER. Furthermore, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft institutes IPA (Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation) and IML (Institute for Material Flow and Logistics) are participating with one AGV each.

The TEST CAMP Intralogistics under the motto "IFOY meets Business" gives logistics decision-makers the opportunity to take test drives, test equipment and have intensive technical discussions with company representatives who have made it to the IFOY AWARD finals with their equipment and solutions. In addition, vehicles and solutions nominated for the IFOY AWARD in previous years will also be presented. Nominated for an IFOY AWARD 2021 are 17 devices and solutions from a total of 14 companies. VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association is sponsor of the IFOY AWARD.
