The globally operating HEINZ-GLAS Group with headquarters in Kleintettau, Germany is starting the second half of 2021 with confidence. After a strenuous and stressful period, marked by the spread of the Corona virus and the accident of a furnace at the Polish location Dzialdowo, the glassmakers can breathe a sigh of relief. After 6 months in 2021, they are now back at pre-crisis level. The international market, which the almost 400-year-old company serves, has recovered faster than expected.

But it is not only the market development that has given HEINZ-GLAS reason to rejoice. The company has used the crisis period to adjust its product portfolio and realign itself in a global market. While two years ago the focus of the family-owned company was still strongly on the production of noble and luxurious perfume flacons, the product mix has now also changed in the direction of skin care, lifestyle, home fragrance and spirits. The strengths of the HEINZ-GLAS Group lie above all in the global range of all glass qualities, complete packaging solutions made of plastic and glass and sustainable decoration options. The company’s global presence is a great advantage here, as it makes it possible to relocate production to the site that makes sense for the respective article. It is not for nothing that capacities are fully utilised worldwide – glass production and finishing have been working at almost full capacity since the beginning of the year.

A major milestone was reached just a few weeks ago in Changzhou, China. Here, the construction of the furnace at the newly built production site in Jiangsu province began at the end of July. High-quality glass is expected to roll off the production line here as early as the beginning of 2022. Expansion into South America is also in full swing: an office building, storage space and a hall for finishing are being built in Brazil. The joint venture in India is currently running at full capacity and is considered an important success factor for supplying the local Indian and Indonesian markets and for price-sensitive products for the mass market. The furnace in Dzialdowo/Poland, which was affected by major damage, has also been rebuilt so that regular production can be resumed before the end of the year.

In August, the HEINZ-GLAS Group employed around 3,250 people, almost 1,500 of them in Germany. The glassmaking tradition of the Heinz family dates back to 1523, that of the HEINZ-GLAS company to 1622. Next year, the 12th generation of the family business will celebrate its 400th anniversary, together with the village of Piesau, where the 1st glassworks and thus the village of Piesau were founded in 1622.
