The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) and some of the world’s leading sporting goods brands worked together to ensure that all athletes participating at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 were equipped with the latest state-of-the-art competition apparel through the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Competition Uniform Support Programme.

Crucial support for athletes

Supporting athletes and NOCs that need it most, the NOC Competition Uniform Support Programme supplied essential and free competition clothing to more than 500 athletes from 73 NOCs in Tokyo. Without this support, these NOCs would not be able to provide the technical clothing necessary for their athletes to compete at the Games.

The sporting goods brands involved in the programme provide competition uniforms tailored for each athlete, representing the colours and designs of their NOCs, when qualification timing allows. Their participation is essential to ensure that all athletes have the state-of-the-art uniforms they deserve to perform at their best during their Olympic competitions. The brands involved in the Support Programme for Tokyo 2020 under the WFSGI umbrella are: Adidas, Arena, Asics, Descente, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike, Orbea, Pentland Brands – Speedo, Puma and Under Armour.

This programme has already supported over 1,000 athletes from 94 NOCs across the three Olympic Games it has featured at (the Olympic Games Rio 2016, where it was first piloted, the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020). Athletes will also benefit from this programme at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.

Athletes share their road to Tokyo

In this video, six athletes share their respective journeys from their training at home to the moment when they pick up their uniforms at the Olympic Village and compete in Tokyo. Allyson Ponson (Aruba, Swimming), Sibusiso Matsenjwa (Eswatini, Athletics), Najma Parveen (Pakistan, Athletics), Robyn Young (Eswatini, Swimming), Luiza Gega (Albania, Athletics) and Malia Paseka (Tonga, Taekwondo) are among the Olympians who benefited from the programme.
