At Intersolar (Munich, October 6-8), Mersen will present complete solutions for safety and reliability for electrical power that have proven themselves in various key markets such as electrical energy storage, LED streetlighting, EV and especially in solar photovoltaic systems.

Comprehensive electrical devices offer for photovoltaic solar systems
Mersen is among the innovators in the development of safe and reliable protection for solar photovoltaic installations. The company has developed an entire program – HelioProtection® – which comprises systems for surge protection as well as dedicated fuses and fuse-gears. Mersen Surge-Trap® is the patented brand for surge protection devices (SPDs). It is a flexible platform that provides solutions for protection of power lines and signal lines in solar PV systems.

DC PV-Junction Box
Mersen offers a series of DC photovoltaic surge protection junction boxes for inverters to IEC/EN standard. They come in several configuration including Type 1 or Type 2, pre-assembled solution ready for installation, and just need to be connected in parallel upstream of residential and lite commercial string inverters of several MPP trackers, mainly 1000Vdc rooftop installations.

SB PCB

The series of socket bases allows for integration of Mersen’s pluggable IEC surge protection cartridges directly on printed circuit boards. With this series, Mersen offers an optimal solution for inverters and PV combiner boxes. The series host the entire range of IEC surge protection cartridges AC and DC, Type 2 and type 1+2 SPDs. Mersen SB PCB supports voltage up to 1500VDC and provides answers for specific PV issues on the DC side for multiple MPPT devices and on the AC side with increased voltage levels. The devices comply with both IEC and UL standards. In addition to costs efficiency, no power fuse is needed on the DC side, no wiring is required, and a remoted end life indicator is integrated.

Protection at 800VAC

Application-specific NH 800VAC fuse-links are specially designed and developed for use in solar photovoltaic applications. The general-purpose gR class fuses are used to protect cables and devices. They were developed to enable protection of the entire voltage spectrum, to interrupt overloads, and to prevent short-circuit faults up to their circuit-breaking capacity. This allows them to be used as the only protection and makes them the perfect solution for use of DC / 800VAC solar inverters. Mersen offers standard 800Vac SPDs and also specific AC reinforced SPDs for peak voltage withstand up to 2,2kV between L-PE which can cope with recurrent generation voltage-peaks in certain situations at up to 800Vac. In combination with Mersen SPD, Mersen Multivert® and Multibloc® (vertical and horizontal 800VAC NH fuse switch disconnectors) provide a complete fuse protection system for the combiner boxes on the AC side of the new string inverters with rated operational voltage of 800V AC.

Fuses for EES applications

Mersen’s gBat fuse series are specially developed for protecting battery systems. These fuses provide protection throughout the entire range, from very small surge currents to DC fault currents up to 150kA. The NH gBat fuse series comprises different rated values in 1000VDC and 1500VDC with several sizes. The fuses fulfill the requirements of the new draft of the IEC 60269-7 standard for battery protection. They are available with bolted type blades for direct mounting or with plain blades.
