ASPION GmbH has been awarded this year’s Baden-Württemberg Innovation Prize. The €50,000 prize is awarded annually to small and medium-sized companies for the outstanding development and application of new technologies. A high-ranking prize committee with representatives from business, politics and the media decides on the award. The members evaluate the applications according to the following three criteria: technical progress, special entrepreneurial performance and sustainable economic success. ASPION received the award for its intelligent data loggers, which monitor shock-sensitive goods for possible transport damage and thus ensure a smooth supply chain. The Karlsruhe-based company was chosen from over 110 applicants for the coveted award.

On 16 November 2021, Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut presented the Baden-Württemberg Innovation Prize to ASPION’s managing director duo Martina and Michael Wöhr at the Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart. "More than ever, we need the will and courage of people to strengthen the innovative power of the state and drive investment in future technologies," said the Minister at the 37th award ceremony. The Innovation Prize has been awarded to small and medium-sized enterprises from Baden-Württemberg for the outstanding development and application of new technologies since 1985. "We are very pleased to receive this award," said ASPION Managing Director Martina Wöhr. "The award encourages us to continue inspiring our international customers with innovative and easy-to-use products in the future."

Safe supply chain processes thanks to the intelligent shock data logger

This year, over 110 applications were submitted for the award. ASPION received the coveted award for its intelligent, inexpensive yet easy-to-use shock data loggers. Until now, mechanical transport loads could not be evaluated neutrally and independently. The ASPION G-Log 2 data logger solves this dilemma in a smart way: for the first time, the device offers an integrated vibration test according to recognised transport standards. With the detailed recording of shock events to the millisecond, harmful transport events can also be legally proven and safe supply chain processes effectively supported.

Technology region Karlsruhe offers optimal conditions

The conditions for further growth of the high-tech company are very good in the technology region of Karlsruhe. With its numerous universities, the region offers an excellent environment for attracting highly trained specialists. "As one of the leading technology sites in Europe and with a distinctive network of technology companies as well as research institutions, we find the best conditions for further innovation and growth here," said Wöhr.

In April, ASPION GmbH celebrated its tenth anniversary with company founder Michael Wöhr. Data loggers from Karlsruhe now provide reliable service for more than 500 companies worldwide. Among others, companies from mechanical and plant engineering, medical and measurement technology, the energy, electronics and automotive industries as well as research rely on the unique shock data loggers from ASPION.
