Radiometric density measurement systems are used wherever conventional measurement techniques fail. Successful applications can be found in a wide variety of industries and especially where extreme process environments and related challenging measurement conditions prevail, such as extreme temperatures, high pressure, dust or corrosive or abrasive media. Berthold’s density measurement systems are used for continuous process monitoring on pipelines and in vessels. Due to the radiometric principle, density, concentration and solid content can be determined completely contact-free without changing or affecting the flow properties of the measured material. The measurement can be carried out on liquids and mixtures of all kinds, including acids, alkalis, solutions, emulsions and suspensions. It is also possible to determine the bulk density of solids, such as granulates or powders.

The measurement is easily installed on the outside of the pipeline without having to stop the running process in the pipeline. This means that a retrofit installation is likewise no problem. Once the measurement has been installed and put into operation, the principle of "set it and forget it" applies. The non-contact measurement method and the robust design provide the operator with a wear- and maintenance-free measurement solution. Due to the patented drift compensation, which continuously compensates for temperature and aging effects, the system provides reliable and reproducible measurement results over many years with the highest accuracy. Thus, regular recalibration is completely eliminated..

In combination with a velocity signal, the density measurement system can be used to determine the mass flow. It is also possible to compensate for temperature fluctuations in the measured media, either by means of a PT100 or a separate temperature sensor, in order to monitor the product density independently of temperature fluctuations.

With more than 70 years of experience in the field of radiometric measurements, our experts will find the right solution for your demanding measurement task.
