To meet the rapidly increasing demand for sustainably generated energy, and its associated need for sophisticated logistics concepts for the storage and transport of components, deugro and NORDFROST are pooling their strengths in a strategic cooperation. With the Green Energy Logistics Hub, the energy sector is being served from and to Wilhelmshaven on land and water.

A holistic concept, the Green Energy Logistics Hub mainly addresses clients from the onshore and offshore wind energy industry as well as grid-related players from the converter stations, substations, cable business, and transformers sectors, among others. The new logistics center will primarily serve the Central Europe region. The joint offer includes the handling and storage, consolidation and commissioning of components, as well as condition inspection including photo documentation, packing and stowage/unloading of containers, import/export clearance and other logistics services at the NORDFROST terminals in Wilhelmshaven.

The strategic partnership of the two owner-managed family companies, with nearly 150 years of combined experience in port handling and project logistics, creates a multitude of synergies for clients. With tide-independent access from the North Sea and direct, traffic-light-free hinterland connections to the German freeway, the logistics concepts via Wilhelmshaven offer considerable potential for cost and time savings. The existing port handling capacities guarantee an optimal process flow, while expansion options will be able to increase flexibility in clients’ supply chain.

NORDFROST will be responsible for the handling of the components at its terminals with its own heavy lift equipment such as heavy lift cranes, reach stackers, and forklifts, as well as other lifting and handling equipment. Further special handling equipment required by the client will be mutually organized by both partners.

As part of the cooperation, NORDFROST will provide an about 150,000-square-meter supervised and protected logistics area at its two Wilhelmshaven port locations, with a total area of 40 hectares for the joint hub activities, unrestricted access for ocean-going vessels and direct hinterland connections to the German freeway and the European rail network.

As the world’s leading project logistics provider, deugro brings its many years of experience to the table—from project planning and preparation to complex transport engineering concepts and the complete logistical handling of turnkey projects. Since 2003, deugro has had a track record of more than 190 successfully completed onshore and offshore wind projects in more than 40 countries.

deugro is committed to promoting the sustainable energy industry worldwide. As a partner, deugro actively supports its clients in developing and delivering innovative logistics solutions in all new and existing sustainable energy sectors. These include biomass, carbon capture, energy from waste, geothermal, hydrogen, onshore and offshore wind, solar, and wave and tidal power.

“NORDFROST and deugro are combining their strengths to serve the sustainable energy industry to and from Wilhelmshaven. We are pleased to make our contribution to the energy transition with the development of a new gateway to Central Europe and the North Sea and to help our clients maintain and further improve their supply chains,” said Christian Schulz, Regional Sales Director – Europe, deugro.

Britta Bartels, Managing Partner of NORDFROST, said: “In the strategic partnership, we combine our modern terminal facilities with deugro’s many years of experience in the sustainable energy industry. Together, we meet the requirements of this future industry in the best possible way, which is warmly welcomed at the Port of Wilhelmshaven as an energy and logistics location!”

“We are pleased to join forces with NORDFROST to open this new chapter in support of the COP27 goals—at Germany’s only deep-water port,” added Nils Sauerborn, Regional Tender Manager – Europe, deugro.

All services are now available, and the first cargo has already been handled in Wilhelmshaven.
