The powerful technology of lithium-ion batteries is helping to move away from fossil fuels.

The name John B. Goodenough is certainly not familiar to most, but he was the father of modern lithium-ion batteries. Recently deceased at the age of 100, the Nobel Prize winner created an industry worth many billions. Lithium-ion batteries saw their commercialization about 32 years ago and are now found in many of our devices such as smartphones, laptops and electric cars. And in terms of safety, fast-charging capability and price, there is nothing better to date. Air cabs are also likely to make a breakthrough with lithium-ion batteries. A Munich-based air taxi manufacturer has just achieved a significant step toward market approval.

That’s because the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has laid the groundwork for certification of the Munich-based company’s all-electric air cab. This also clears the way for global acceptance by the aerospace authorities. Ultimately, the electrification of the skies is also thanks to John B. Goodenough and raw materials such as lithium. The Munich-based company is planning global air taxi operations for the end of 2025.

Lithium for rechargeable batteries is a sought-after raw material, and this is reflected in the global lithium competition. The UK is planning to mine and process lithium in Cornwall. This could create the largest lithium producer in Europe by 2030. Other countries and the USA are also focusing on battery materials in their own countries.

In Nevada, Century Lithiumhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/century-lithium-corp/ – is one of the most promising lithium companies. The 100 percent owned Clayton Valley Lithium Project is already well advanced. High-purity lithium has already been produced.

In Idaho and Montana, US Critical Metalshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/us-critical-metals-corp/ – is dedicated to the exploration of lithium, cobalt and rare earth metals. These are expected to be three high-grade projects.
