In 2005, after thirty years, I gave up my marketing profession and left the agency to my junior partner. However, I soon realised that I had no special skills apart from marketing. So I turned my passion for collecting into a profession.

After launching "1000 Objects", a website and shop in downtown Zurich, I bought several important collections, including part of Maurizio Albarelli, the owner of Seguso, Cenedese and Vistosi, and part of Pauly’s sample room in Venice.

The last years

In the last thirty years I have been able to sell more than 4000 glass rarities, design furniture and light objects to collectors, museums and enthusiasts. Today there are still around 6000 objects in my collection. I closed my gallery in 2015. I was 65 and I started playing the piano. I was also co-curator of a Murano glass retrospective of the 20th century at the Museum Bellerive in Zurich.

How my large collection came about.

I am often asked how I came to my passion for glass and design. One prerequisite is, of course, to be a collector and hunter. Like almost every child, I also collected things: First stamps, then coins, later toy robots, space toys, Mickey Mouse notebooks and so on. When I had amassed one of the largest toy robot collections in the world (1200 individual pieces), I sold it to the Vitra Museum in Weil am Rhein in the 1980s. Rolf Fehlbaum is a like-minded person when it comes to collecting – and he also looks a lot like me. In the beginning, I tried to enjoy the emptiness in my flat as a luxury, until – you guessed it – I started collecting again. This time it was furniture and lighting design inspired by Italian design and a lot of Murano glass. I have always been interested in everything that is beautiful, special and rare. So I also collected Pirelli calendars, Visionaires, Swatch watches, photos, art, Japanese tea ceremony objects, clocks and much more.
