Nyquist Systems GmbH, developer and manufacturer of the TubeScan print inspection system, has completed a generational change in management: Stephan Krebs, who founded the company in 2005, has handed over the reins to Joachim Barthelme in November 2023. Krebs will now devote his full attention to product management, placing an even greater emphasis on innovation.

In 2011, Stephan Krebs came up with the idea of using matrix cameras for print inspection instead of the very expensive line scan cameras that were previously used for this purpose. With this groundbreaking technology, the remarkably compact TubeScan inspection system revolutionized the label market by enabling a cost-optimized entry into 100% inspection. Presently, its performance closely rivals the inspection quality of systems relying on line scan cameras, depending on the application.

And that’s not all: Nyquist Systems‘ innovations have significantly driven inspection technology, e.g. inspection of printed fluorescent ink using UV light, Delta-E monitoring, dynamic job change, inspection of variable data or the complete QLink workflow from prepress to finishing.

Since 2013, BST has been handling the distribution of the systems, and in 2020, Nyquist systems became part of the elexis group. Today, there are more than 2,800 TubeScan inspection systems in printing companies around the world – both in the narrow web sector and on presses up to 1,700 mm web width.

Since the introduction of the TubeScan portfolio, Nyquist Systems has experienced double-digit growth rates every year. "BST TubeScan is the technology leader, Nyquist Systems is in an excellent position," said Stephan Krebs at the time of the handover. "Now it is time to pass the torch to younger hands. The new team lineup will allow us to focus even more on the innovations that the market demands and to keep pace with the company’s growth."

His successor, Joachim Barthelme, has more than 21 years of experience in the printing industry, including a key role as Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica, in Tavazzano near Milan, where he spent five and a half years.

"With Joachim Barthelme we have gained an experienced manager with proven industry knowledge," says Alexander Heck, CEO of the elexis Group.

Together with Christian Dotzler, Technical Director, and Stephan Krebs as Product Manager, Barthelme completes the management team at Nyquist Systems.
