The Black Forest-based specialist for modular transfer systems such as conveyor belts, transfer units, and centering devices has used software made by Lino® to digitize its installation planning, reduce the error rate, and take the customer experience to a new level.
Planning complex systems in 2D is time-consuming and prone to errors—even for STEIN Automation. In addition, STEIN customers increasingly wanted 3D visualizations, which required a lot of manual work to create. The company found a sustainable solution at the Design and Sales Automation Conference hosted by Lino GmbH: the tools for 3D layout planning presented there by users were immediately convincing.
From 2D to 3D layout planning: Increased efficiency in Design and Sales
With the introduction of Lino 3D layout, Lino 2D fix, and Tacton Design Automation, STEIN Automation established rule-based, automated 3D layout planning directly in Solidworks®. Since then, designers have been creating complete plant layouts using drag-and-drop, while the complementary Lino 2D fix tool automatically generates consistent drawings. Changes to the 3D model are applied without manual rework – a real quantum leap.
This also applies to sales at STEIN: thanks to end-to-end system integration, the company now delivers error-free quotes in record time. Price and parts lists, 2D layouts, and 3D models are available within a few days, or even within hours for smaller systems. The direct connection to the ABAS ERP system also ensures that all data remains consistent and can be processed without media discontinuity.
Faster quotes – better customer experience through digital 3D visualization
Customer communication also benefits: 3D layouts are presented live in Microsoft Teams meetings – changes, variants, or approvals can be coordinated immediately. In the assembly hall, large displays show the coordinated 2D and 3D layouts so that fitters can build systems exactly according to the digital model. The result: massive time and cost savings, a contemporary customer experience, and a consistent database – from the initial inquiry to the quote to final acceptance.
With the introduction of Lino 3D layout and Lino 2D fix, the company has perfectly transferred its modular philosophy to the digital world. For STEIN Automation, the project has become a milestone on the way to fully digital and customer-oriented installation planning.
