Android users are constantly exposed to dangers online, even when they are only surfing the web on regular websites or installing apps from secure sources. This is because every so often, apps containing malware make it into Google’s Play Store, or an app gets replaced by an infected one through an update. These dangers can be mitigated to a great extent by simply using a good security app for Android. These apps also provide additional protection from spam and phishing attempts as well as offer further security features. The new endurance test showcases the security apps that have provided the best protection over the course of 6 months.

There are still users out there who don’t see the need to install a protection package on their Android device, in the expectation that Google’s standard package, Play Protect, is sufficient. However, this belief is misguided for two reasons. For one, it is possible for apps on the Google Play Store to be infected, and then downloaded to millions of devices. For another, Google Play Protect does not offer blanket protection like other security apps, as our current endurance test indicates.

A worthwhile protection app makes good sense when confronted by infected apps, banking trojans, phishing or smishing links or just malicious downloads from app stores and third-party sources. In addition, there could be an update to an app already installed on a user’s device that replaces the app with a malicious version. A watchdog app for Android devices deletes dangerous apps, blocks harmful links and warns the user of these attacks. […]
