The global rail market is on a growth trajectory: according to UNIFE, the annual market volume is expected to reach around EUR 240.8 billion by 2029. As investments continue to increase, the digitalisation of rolling stock and infrastructure is also advancing, driving higher demands on the underlying connectivity technology. At InnoTrans 2026, taking place in Berlin from 22 to 25 September, LAPP will demonstrate how modern cable and connectivity solutions help address these challenges. The focus at Hall 15.1, Stand 285, will be on the new EPIC® TRAIN Cat.6A and EPIC® TRAIN Cat.5e patch cables.

Passenger information systems, video surveillance, and Ethernet-based control and communication networks are continuously increasing the demand for high-performance data transmission in rail transport. With a comprehensive portfolio of innovative cables, leads and connectors, LAPP addresses the growing requirements of the industry. The solutions offered by the leading provider of cable and connectivity technology enable high data rates, require minimal installation space, provide outstanding mechanical robustness, and meet the certifications required for railway applications.

EPIC® TRAIN Cat.6A – High bandwidth for Train Communication Networks (TCN)

With the EPIC® TRAIN Cat.6A patch cable, LAPP introduces a solution specifically designed to meet the increasing demands of modern Train Communication Networks. The cable supports data rates of up to 10 Gbit/s and is ideal for applications requiring high transmission speeds and maximum reliability. Thanks to its reduced outer diameter, the cable saves weight and installation space, enabling higher cable density, particularly in compact installation environments. As a pre-assembled solution with connectors fitted at both ends, the patch cable also simplifies installation and reduces the risk of errors that can occur during on-site assembly.

For applications with high port density, a version with an especially slim RJ45 connector is available. For environments exposed to increased shock and vibration, an M12 connector version with integrated anti-vibration locking ensures a consistently reliable connection.

EPIC® TRAIN Cat.5e – Flexibility for a wide range of applications

Another new product is the EPIC® TRAIN Cat.5e patch cable, designed for data transmission rates of up to 1,000 Mbit/s. Like the Cat.6A version, this cable features a reduced outer diameter that lowers both weight and space requirements within the vehicle. The solution is available either as a cable assembly with one pre-assembled end, offering maximum flexibility in cable length and connection concept, or as a fully pre-assembled version that significantly reduces installation time and accelerates project implementation.

Reaching the destination faster with a strong rail portfolio

“Digitalisation is fundamentally transforming the rail industry. Connected systems require high-performance communication networks, while demands regarding safety, space requirements and installation effort continue to increase,” explains Thorsten Grünberg, Industry Manager Train at LAPP. “With the new EPIC® TRAIN patch cables, we offer solutions that are precisely tailored to these requirements and provide tangible benefits for operators and rolling stock manufacturers in installation, operation and maintenance.”

The two new EPIC® TRAIN Cat.6A and Cat.5e patch cables further expand LAPP’s comprehensive rail portfolio, which comprises more than 3,400 products for power and data transmission in railway applications and is available worldwide. Visitors to InnoTrans 2026 can learn more about the new products at LAPP’s stand in Hall 15.1, Stand 285, speak with the company’s experts, and discover additional solutions for safe, reliable and efficient rail mobility.
