Atlas, a global leader in weathering testing technology, has released a new generation of its SUNTEST® XLS and XXL series xenon-arc instruments. Designed for accelerated light exposure testing of large or three-dimensional samples, SUNTEST is an established platform for evaluating weathering, lightfastness, and photostability of materials.

Simplifying setup, enhancing control, and increasing testing efficiency, the new SUNTEST upgrades include:

  • Improved 10.1-inch XenoTouch® II 2.0 touchscreen interface
  • Expanded library of standardized test methods
  • New WXView II software for remote monitoring and accessing test data

Together, these new features help reduce operator workload, minimize setup errors, and improve consistency, particularly in high-throughput and multi-user lab environments. Both the XLS and XXL series will also incorporate Atlas’s new ‘harmonized’ color scheme and branding.

At the center of the redesign is the XenoTouch® II 2.0 interface, now standard on both SUNTEST XLS and XXL models. The updated UI is one of the most significant functional upgrades, featuring icon-based navigation and multi-language support (15 languages). It aligns the SUNTEST user experience with Atlas’s Xenotest® and Ci Weather-Ometer®instruments for consistent workflows across platforms.

The interface also provides access to an expanded library of preloaded, industry-standard test methods – including protocols commonly found in ISO, ICH, and ASTM guidelines. "One of my favorite features is the extension of the test libraries," said Dr. Oliver Rahäuser, Senior Product Manager at Atlas. "It makes setting up your SUNTEST significantly easier."

Setpoint monitoring functionality is also included, allowing users to define and enforce tolerances for irradiance, temperature, and other exposure variables. If parameters fall outside defined limits, the system alerts users in real-time. "Setpoint monitoring is essential for everyone who prioritizes testing reliability and quality control,"  said Dr. Rahäuser.

Remote monitoring capabilities have been improved through full compatibility with WXView® II – Atlas’s cloud-based or locally deployed data acquisition platform. Users can access real-time and historical test data from any location. A fixed-format PDF reporting feature, currently in development, will support audit-ready documentation workflows.

The SUNTEST series continues to serve industries where accelerated light exposure testing is essential, including coatings, polymers, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage and electronics. With the capacity to test large or irregularly shaped samples, the XLS and XXL systems are particularly well-suited for three-dimensional product testing.

The next-generation SUNTEST XLS and XXL models are available now through Atlas and its global network of distributors. Learn more about SUNTEST.
